David Tynan O'Mahony (6 July 193610 March 2005), known professionally as Dave Allen, was an Irish comedian, satirist, and actor. He was best known for his observational comedy. Allen regularly provoked indignation by highlighting political hypocrisy and showing disdain for religious authority. His technique and style have influenced young British comedians. Initially becoming known in Australia in 1963 and 1964, Allen made regular television appearances in the United Kingdom from the late 1960s until the mid-1980s. The BBC aired his ''Dave Allen Show'' from 1971 to 1986, which was also exported to several other European countries. He had a major resurgence during the late 1980s and early 1990s. His television shows were also broadcast in the United States, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Yugoslavia, Australia, and New Zealand. David J. Allen is a botanist and author, specialising in tropical legumes in West Africa and habitat conservation in East Devon, UK. He was president of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland between 1985 and 1987. Education and personal life He was born in Guildford, UK in 1939. His parents were Della (née Williams) and Denis Allen, a diplomat. In 1946 the family moved to Washington in the USA returning to the UK in 1951. Allen was subsequently sent to boarding school in the UK. He became interested in natural history at a young age. In 1963 he enrolled at Wye College, University of London. David Allen MBE (24 October 1937 – 13 December 2011) was a teacher, trade unionist and politician from Northern Ireland. William Edward David Allen (6 January 1901 – 18 September 1973) was a British scholar, Foreign Service officer, politician and businessman, best known as a historian of the South Caucasus—notably Georgia. He was closely involved in the politics of Northern Ireland, and had fascist tendencies. Career Born into, on his father's side, an Ulster-Scots family in London and brought up in Hertfordshire, he was educated at Eton College (1914–1918), where he began to learn Russian and Turkish. He published his first book, ''The Turks in Europe'', when he was eighteen. He was a special correspondent for ''The Morning Post'' during the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922) and the Rif War (1925). David Oliver Allen
David Oliver Allen (1800–1863) was an American missionary to India and an author. Life Allen was born in Barre, Massachusetts to Moses and Mahitable Allen. His father relocated the family to Princeton, Massachusetts while David Allen was an infant. He initially began collegiate studies at Williams College, but moved to Amherst College upon that institution's opening. He graduated from Amherst College in 1823 and spent a year teaching in Groton, Massachusetts. In 1824 he began study at Andover Theological Seminary and completed their course in 1827. He decided upon missionary work his final year, and was ordinated on May 21. Seven days later he was married to Myra Wood. Allen was called to Bombay, India as a missionary before he graduated as the situation there was deemed an emergency. He arrived in Bombay on November 27, 1827. David Allen (born 15 September 1985) is a former rugby league footballer who played as a forward. An Ireland international, Allen played for the Wigan Warriors, Oldham, Barrow Raiders, Widnes Vikings, Whitehaven and the Rochdale Hornets. Club career Allen was included in the Wigan Warriors squad in 2003 and become a first team player in 2005. He played 25 matches for Wigan mostly as a substitute and was released at the end of the 2005's Super League X. After being released from Wigan Warriors he went on to join National League One side Widnes Vikings. He was one of seven ex-Wigan players in the 2006 Widnes side and regularly played in the second row.
