David Rushton (born 3 May 1973) is an English former association football, footballer who played as a midfielder for Port Vale F.C., Port Vale. Career Rushton graduated through the Port Vale F.C., Port Vale juniors to sign his first professional contract in July 1991. He made his debut in a 4–0 defeat to Leicester City F.C., Leicester City in a second round Full Members Cup match at Filbert Street on 23 October. He was given a free transfer in May 1992. The Full Members' Cup was an association football cup competition held in English football from 1985 to 1992. It was also known under its sponsored names of the Simod Cup from 1987 to 1989 and the Zenith Data Systems Cup from 1989 to 1992. The competition was created after the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster, when English clubs were banned from European competition, as an additional competition for clubs in the top two English League divisions. Filbert Street was a football stadium in Leicester, England, which served as the home of Leicester City F.C. from 1891 until 2002. Although officially titled the City Business Stadium in the early 1990s, it remained known almost exclusively by its address, like many English football stadiums. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004.
