Lothar Mendes
Lothar Mendes (19 May 1894 – 24 February 1974) was a German-born screenwriter and film director. His two best known films are ''Jew Süss (1934 film), Jew Süss'' (1934) and ''The Man Who Could Work Miracles'' (1936), both productions for British studios. Career Born in Berlin, Mendes began his career as an actor in Vienna and Berlin in Max Reinhardt's company. After directing his first two films in Berlin, he settled in the United States in the early 1920s and remained there until 1933, directing more than a dozen features, mostly frothy comedies, while under contract to Paramount Pictures, Paramount. His films included the last silent film made in the USA, ''The Four Feathers (1929 film), The Four Feathers'' (1929), and the murder mystery ''Payment Deferred'' (1933) starring British actor Charles Laughton. Georg John
Georg John (born Georg Jacobsohn; 23 July 1879 – 18 November 1941) was a German stage and film actor. Early life Georg Jacobsohn was born into a Jewish household in Schmiegel, Province of Posen, Imperial Germany. Career John began his career around 1900 in smaller stages and traveling theatres. In 1904, he was engaged at the Theater of Wilhelmshaven, followed by appearances at Stolp in 1905, Altona, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Bochum and Göttingen. In 1914, John worked as an actor and producer for Vaterländische Schauspiele in Vienna. She appeared in 146 films between 1912 and 1942. Biography Hanni Weisse was born on 16 October 1892 in Chemnitz. In 1910, she received an apprenticeship in cello playing and first appeared in small roles with choral engagement at the Berlin Thalia Theater in 1910. In 1912, Weisse became a member of the Royal Belvedere Dresden, with whom she toured all of Germany. The film director Max Mack discovered her that same year, and Weisse signed a contract with the Vitascope film company. Herbert Louis Stock Sr. (September 3, 1899 – December 21, 1987) was an American football halfback who played one season in the National Football League (NFL) for the Columbus Tigers and three for the independent Ironton Tanks. Fritz Schulz (25 April 1896 – 9 May 1972) was a German and Austrian movie and stage actor, singer and director. Born in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad), Austria-Hungary, he appeared in almost one hundred movies between 1917 and 1970. Of Jewish extraction, Schultz fled the German film industry in Berlin at the onset of Nazism in 1933 and moved to Vienna to act in and direct independent Austrian film productions. He departed Austria as an exile upon the German Anschluss in 1938 and settled in Switzerland where he concentrated on his stage career until his death in Zürich in 1972. He was married at the age of 14 to 19 year old actress Ágnes Esterházy from 1910 until her death in 1956.
