Dartmouth Big Green Men's Ice Hockey
The Dartmouth Big Green men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Dartmouth College. The Big Green are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire. History Early years Dartmouth College fielded their first ice hockey team in January 1906, winning their first game 4–3. The team played an expanded schedule the next two years but after a 1–5–1 finish in 1908 the program hired its first head coach and promptly posted a 10–3–1 record. The ice hockey club would bring in a new bench boss each year until 1912 when Fred Rocque stayed for three seasons followed by Clarence Wanamaker with four. Dartmouth was able to win more than they lost during this time despite the coaching turnover and the lack of local facilities. 1905–06 Dartmouth Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1905–06 Dartmouth men's ice hockey season was the inaugural season of play for the program. Season Joining in with the majority of other future Ivy League teams, Darthmouth began playing ice hockey with the 1905–06 season. The genesis of the team was a result of the efforts of four students from the Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cambridge area: Addison Brooks, Eugene Brooks, John Crocker and Warren Foote. All four would eventually serve as captain for the team. Note: Dartmouth College did not possess a moniker for its athletic teams until the 1920s, however, the university had adopted 'Dartmouth Green' as its school color in 1866. The Boston College Eagles are a Division I college hockey program that represent Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The team has competed in Hockey East since 1984, having previously played in the ECAC. The Eagles have won five national championships, the most recent coming in 2012. The tournament Most Outstanding Player is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the NCAA men's ice hockey championship to the player to be judged the most outstanding. The award has been in effect since the adoption of a national championship tournament for the 1947–48 season. The annual NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament is a college ice hockey tournament held in the United States by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to determine the top men's team in Division I. Charlie Holt
Charlie Holt (July 17, 1922 – March 17, 2000) was an American ice hockey coach. He was the head coach of the University of New Hampshire from 1968 thru 1986. He is one of three 3-time recipients of the college ice hockey National Coach-of-the-Year Award (the others being Len Ceglarski and Jack Parker). Career Holt began coaching men's ice hockey immediately after graduating from Dartmouth in 1946. He spent one year each at Cranbrook Schools and Melrose High School before joining the US National Team for the 1949 World Ice Hockey Championships helping the Americans to a bronze medal finish, their first medal since the start of World War II. A few years later Charlie found himself behind the bench for Northwood School where he would remain as head coach from 1955-1962 before he got his first collegiate offer. Dick Rondeau
Richard Rondeau (December 18, 1921 – January 18, 1989) was an American ice hockey player. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Rondeau played his college hockey at Dartmouth College and was a member of the 1942 NCAA championship team. The team won 21 games and lost 2, while Rondeau led the nation in scoring with 45 goals and 32 assists. Dartmouth would go on to win 41 straight games over a 4-year period. Rondeau captained the 1943 team as well, and also served as coach when Coach Eddie Jeremiah entered the Navy in mid-season. He was captain again in 1944. Over his four-year college career Rondeau shattered nearly all of the school's scoring records, tallying 103 goals and 73 assists for an average 4.4 points per game. Rondeau still holds eight Collegiate Ice Hockey records, including most goals and assists in one game (12 goals, 11 assists), however, because he played before NCAA sponsorship, none of his marks are currently recognized nationally. The United States Hockey Hall of Fame was established in 1973 with the goal of preserving the history of ice hockey in the United States while recognizing the extraordinary contributions of select players, coaches, administrators, officials and teams. It is located in Eveleth, Minnesota, an iron mining town in northern Minnesota. Inductees With the four-member induction Class of 2020, there are now 192 enshrined members. New members are inducted annually based on their contributions to hockey in the United States during the course of their careers.
