Darren Baxter (born 19 March 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray and Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL). The son of former Footscray footballer Ray Baxter Ray Baxter (born 24 February 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) Recruited locally, from Kingsville, Baxter was a follower and key position player. It wasn't until 1987, when he played every game, that he cemented his spot in the team and he gave the club good service for the rest of the decade. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Hawthorn is the only club to have won premierships in each decade of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. In total, it has won 13 senior VFL/AFL premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Ray Baxter
Ray Baxter (born 24 February 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) Recruited locally, from Kingsville, Baxter was a follower and key position player. He topped Footscray's goal-kicking in the 1959 VFL season, with 35 goals, six of which came in a loss to Essendon at Windy Hill. His efforts were rewarded with selection in that year's Victorian team which played Tasmania. He was the club's leading goal-kicker again in 1960, managing 37 goals, the seventh-biggest tally in the league that season. Playing as a centre half-back, Baxter was a member of the Footscray team which won the 1963 Night Premiership. Ray continued in footy, by being both Captain and Coach of Mordialloc from 1965 to 1967.
