Darragh Park
Darragh Park (July 24, 1939 – April 17, 2009) was an American Artist, and the literary executor of the estate of Pulitzer Prize–winning poet James Schuyler. Perhaps best known for his book cover illustrations, Park painted landscapes as well as cityscapes in the style of Fairfield Porter. He was based in Bridgehampton, NY and his works were on exhibit at the Parrish Art Museum. and at the Guild Hall in East Hampton. Darragh Anderson Park III was born in New York City to Darragh A. Park Jr. and the former Sally Mellon. His father was a founder and chairman of the Wall St. municipal bond firm of Park, Ryan Inc. James Schuyler
James Marcus Schuyler (November 9, 1923 – April 12, 1991) was an American poet. His awards include the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his 1980 collection ''The Morning of the Poem''. He was a central figure in the New York School and is often associated with fellow New York School poets John Ashbery, Frank O'Hara, Kenneth Koch, and Barbara Guest. Life and death James Marcus Schuyler was the son of Marcus Schuyler (a reporter) and Margaret Daisy Connor Schuyler. Born in Chicago, he spent his teen years in East Aurora, New York. After graduating high school, Schuyler attended Bethany College in West Virginia from 1941 to 1943, though he was not a very successful student; in a later interview, he recalled, "I just played bridge all the time." Schuyler moved to New York City in the late 1940s where he worked for NBC and first befriended W. H. Auden. Fairfield Porter
Fairfield Porter (June 10, 1907 – September 18, 1975) was an American painter and art critic. He was the fourth of five children of James Porter, an architect, and Ruth Furness Porter, a poet from a literary family. He was the brother of photographer Eliot Porter and the brother-in-law of federal Reclamation Commissioner Michael W. Straus. While a student at Harvard, Porter majored in fine arts; he continued his studies at the Art Students' League when he moved to New York City in 1928. His studies at the Art Students' League predisposed him to produce socially relevant art and, although the subjects would change, he continued to produce realist work for the rest of his career. He would be criticized and revered for continuing his representational style in the midst of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Parrish Art Museum
The Parrish Art Museum is an art museum designed by Herzog & de Meuron Architects and located in Water Mill, New York, whereto it moved in 2012 from Southampton Village. The museum focuses extensively on work by artists from the artist colony of the South Shore (Long Island) and North Shore (Long Island). The Parrish Art Museum was founded in 1898. Park Ryan Inc. was a municipal bond firm on Wall Street, founded in 1953 by Darragh A. Park Jr. and James Van Pelt Ryan. The firm, based at 70 Pine Street (the American International Building) specialized in government tax-exempt bonds, and later in sinking fund financing.
