''Dry Season'' ; french: Saison sèche) is a 2006 film by Chadian director Mahamat Saleh Haroun. The film was one of seven films from non-Western cultures commissioned by Peter Sellars' New Crowned Hope Festival to commemorate the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Inspiration for the themes of revenge and reconciliation was taken from Mozart's ''La clemenza di Tito''. Mahamat Saleh Haroun
Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (; ar, محمد الصالح هارون) was born in 1961 in Abéché, Chad. He is a film director from Chad. He left Chad during the civil wars of the 1980s. Haroun is the first Chadian full-length film director. He both writes and directs his films. Though he has lived in France since 1982, most of his films have been set in and made in Chad. Biography Mahamat-Saleh Haroun studied film at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma in Paris. He later went to study journalism at Bordeaux I.U.T (Technical Institute), and then worked for several years as a journalist in France. He directed his first short film ''Tan Koul'' in 1991, but he became famous after his second film Maral Tanié' (25 minutes), directed in 1994. 63rd Venice International Film Festival
The 63rd annual Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, was opened on 30 August 2006 with Brian De Palma's ''The Black Dahlia'' and was closed on 9 September 2006. Host of the event was Italian actress Isabella Ferrari. During the festival, retrospectives were held on the one hundredth anniversary of the births of three major Italian directors: Roberto Rossellini, Mario Soldati and Luchino Visconti. Youssouf Djaoro (born 28 March 1963) is a Chadian film actor. He made his debut by appearing in the film ''Daresalam'' in 2000 in which he played the character of Tom. It was directed by the critically acclaimed Issa Serge Coelo and was the first of several films they have collaborated with. ''Tartina City'', also directed by Coelo in 2006 in which Djaoro played a journalist won the Innovation Award at the 31st Montreal World Film Festival. Later in 2006 he starred in the film ''Daratt'' playing the role of Nassara. Abderrahmane Sissako (born 13 October 1961) is a Mauritanian-born Malian film director and producer. His film '' Waiting for Happiness'' (''Heremakono'') was screened at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival official selection under Un Certain Regard, winning a FIPRESCI Prize.
