Daraga Church
Nuestra Señora de la Porteria Parish Church (also ''Our Lady of the Gate Parish Church''), commonly known as Daraga Church, is a Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church in the municipality of Daraga, Albay, Daraga, Albay, Philippines under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Legazpi. The church was built by the Franciscans in 1772 under the patronage of the Our Lady of the Gate. Certain church sections were declared as a List of National Cultural Treasures in the Philippines, National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines in 2007. History Daraga was established as a settlement by people relocating from Cagsawa, who feared another eruption of the Mayon Volcano in that region. Daraga, Albay
Daraga, officially the Municipality of Daraga ( bcl, Banwaan kan Daraga; tl, Bayan ng Daraga), is a 1st class municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Albay, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 133,893. The municipality is home to the famous Cagsawa Ruins. History The word ''daraga'' historically referred to a "maiden", and is the modern term for an "unmarried woman" in many of the Bikol languages. Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen and Tony Wheeler. In 1972, they embarked on an overland trip through Europe and Asia to Australia, following the route of the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition. The company name originates from the misheard "lovely planet" in a song written by Matthew Moore. Lonely Planet's first book, ''Across Asia on the Cheap'', had 94 pages; it was written by the couple in their home. Jose Ma. Clemente "Joey" Sarte Salceda (, born October 26, 1961) is a Filipino politician and the current Representative of Albay's 2nd District in the Philippine House of Representatives. He previously served as governor of Albay province in the Philippines. Prior to that, he was a three-year term representative of the Third District of Albay and was appointed as Presidential Chief of Staff on February 10, 2007, after the resignation of Michael Defensor before he himself resigned on March 29, 2007, to pursue his gubernatorial bid in his province. Cornice
In architecture, a cornice (from the Italian ''cornice'' meaning "ledge") is generally any horizontal decorative moulding that crowns a building or furniture element—for example, the cornice over a door or window, around the top edge of a pedestal, or along the top of an interior wall. A simple cornice may be formed just with a crown, as in crown moulding atop an interior wall or above kitchen cabinets or a bookcase. A projecting cornice on a building has the function of throwing rainwater free of its walls.
