Daphny Van Den Brand
Daphny van den Brand, (born 6 April 1978 in Zeeland, North Brabant) is a Dutch cyclo-cross, road bicycle and mountain bike racer. Daphny van den Brand started her cycling at eight. She won races thanks to her sprint. Van den Brand joined the Dutch junior team. She won her first medal as a junior in 1993 during the cyclo-cross race in Sint-Michielsgestel, where she finished third . Dutch mountain bike manager Leo van Zeeland asked her in 1994 to race on a mountain bike. Van den Brand took part in a race in Bergschenhoek and finished in fifth position. She rode the European and world junior mountain biking championships and finished seventh in both. Van den Brand then concentrated on mountain biking and cyclo-cross. She won eight national cyclo-cross championships and the cyclo-cross world championship in 2003 in Monopoli. Zeeland, North Brabant
Zeeland is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the former municipality of Landerd, about 5 km northeast of Uden. History The village was first mentioned in 1376 as Zeelant, and refers to Terra Salica, an inheritance system which excluded women. Zeeland developed in the Middle Ages on the edge of the Peel, Netherlands, Peel region. The Catholic St Jacobus de Meerdere Church was built between 1871 and 1872 as a replacement for its medieval predecessor. Zeeland was home to 467 people in 1840. Zeeland was a separate municipality until 1994, when it became part of Landerd. Since 2022 it has been part of the new municipality of Maashorst. Gieten
Gieten is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 14 km east of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1223 as Geten. The etymology is unclear. Gieten is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Anloo. The village started to developed where the road from Groningen to Coevorden intersected with a road to Assen. The former village Bonnen was located to the east and contained the '' havezate'' Entinge from 1648 until its demolition in 1768. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from at least 1302. In 1626, it was heavily damaged during the Dutch Revolt, and rebuilt. The tower was built in 1804 as a replacement of a 17th century tower. Gieten was home to 464 people 1840. Sint-Michielsgestel () is a village in the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel, Netherlands. Geography The 120 km long river Dommel flows north from a well near Peer in Belgium. Just north of 's-Hertogenbosch it is joined by the Aa and joins the Meuse as Dieze. It currently divides Sint-Michielsgestel in two parts. In the past the Dommel was important as a transport axis and had crucial influence on the village's history.
