Doris Daou
Doris Daou (born 1964) is a Lebanese-born astronomer from Canada who was formerly the Director for Education and Public Outreach of the NASA Lunar Science Institute and the Associate Director of the NASA Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI), and is currently the program contact for NASA's "Small Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration (SIMPLEx)". Early life and education Daou's family fled war-ravaged Lebanon when she was a child, and settled in Canada. Daou was educated at the Université de Montréal in Quebec, where she studied the atmospheric parameters of variable stars. She holds a B.Sc in Physics and Mathematics, as well as a M.Sc in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Her PhD dissertation in 1989 was titled, ''Études spectroscopiques et paramètres atmosphériques des étoiles ZZ Ceti''. Peter Daou (born 1965) is a Lebanese-American political strategist, activist, musician and author who has advised major political figures, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. He was described by ''The New York Times'' as "one of the most prominent political bloggers in the nation." ''The Washington Post'' said that his early work in digital politics helped innovate "a whole new way of campaigning." Early life Daou was born and raised in Beirut during the Lebanese Civil War. At 15, he claims he was conscripted by the Lebanese Forces, a Christian militia, and underwent three years of military training alongside his schooling. Vanessa Daou (born October 4, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, poet, visual artist and dancer. Most notably a musician, her work is known among nu jazz, trip hop and electronic music circles for her trademark spoken word and aspirated singing style as well as its erotic and literary subtexts. Daou's songs are represented by Downtown Music Publishing. Early life Daou was born and spent her early childhood in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, relocating in 1984 to attend boarding school in Massachusetts. As a young adult, she attended Vassar College for two years and spent several years in New York City's Hell's Kitchen area before earning a scholarship to study dance at Columbia University. Daou Al-Salhine Al-Jadak
Daou al-Salhine al-Jadak was a field commander for the forces of the National Transitional Council of Libya during the 2011 Libyan civil war. Jadak was imprisoned for more than 18 years by Muammar Gaddafi's regime and led anti-Gaddafi forces in their battle for control of Bani Walid which eventually succeeded in October. Jadak came from Bani Walid himself. He had told AFP two days before his death that he had been imprisoned for more than 18 years for helping organise a 1993 rebellion. The Daou were a New York-based dance music quintet composed of Peter Daou (keyboards), Vanessa Daou (vocals), Mike Caro (guitar), Leon Dorsey (bass), and former 24-7 Spyz member Anthony Johnson (drums).
