Danny Morgan (Australian Footballer)
Danny Morgan (born 20 August 1974) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Australian Football League (AFL). Morgan came to Carlton in the 1990 National Draft but would only play for them at reserves level. While playing with the Preston Knights, he was picked up by Essendon with the 23rd selection of the 1993 Mid-Season Draft. An on-baller, he won the Essendon reserves best and fairest award in 1994, an award he would also win in 1996. In just his second senior game, against Adelaide in the 1995 AFL season, Morgan had 24 disposals and earned two Brownlow Medal votes. In 1998 he moved to Port Adelaide in the SANFL and played in both their 1998 and 1999 Premiership team. Northern Knights Football Club
The Northern Knights is an Australian rules football club playing in the Talent League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria, Australia. They are based in Preston, representing the northern suburban area of Melbourne. The Knights are one of the six original clubs set up as part of a plan by the Victorian State Football League to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft, which allows U18 players the opportunity to be selected by AFL clubs. Northern Knights have had many of their players drafted into the AFL, including the first two selections in the 2007 AFL Draft, Matthew Kreuzer and Trent Cotchin, and the fifth selection in the 2008 AFL Draft, Michael Hurley. 1995 AFL Season
The 1995 AFL season was the 99th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The league expanded to sixteen clubs, with the newly established Fremantle Football Club, based in Fremantle, Western Australia, joining the league. The season ran from 31 March until 30 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Gerald Brosnan
Gerald Brosnan (14 August 1877 – 29 July 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the early years of the Victorian Football League (VFL). He played as a key position forward and had an accurate left foot kick. Family Jeremiah Brosnan was born to Irish immigrants Patrick Brosnan and Ellen Berryman in 1877, however for most his adult life he used the name Gerald. Football Brosnan originally tried out with Geelong in 1894 and Essendon in 1895 but was let go by both sides. He then moved to Ballarat Football Club in 1896, playing for them until 1899. Buoyed by his good form for Ballarat, Brosnan decided to make another attempt at a VFL career and joined Fitzroy.Atkinson, p. 82. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The Charles Brownlow Trophy, better known as the Brownlow Medal (and informally as "Charlie"), is awarded to the " best and fairest" player in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the home-and-away season, as determined by votes cast by the three officiating field umpires after each game. 1990 AFL Draft
The 1990 AFL draft was the 5th annual draft of Australian rules footballers to the 14 clubs in the Australian Football League. It consisted of the national draft held at the end of the 1990 season, the pre-season draft held before the 1991 AFL season, and a mid-season draft. Clubs receive picks based on the reverse of the position in which they finish on the ladder during the season. This was introduced as an equalisation strategy in response to the increasing transfer fees and player salaries. National draft rules The minimum draft age for the 1990 national draft was 16. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final.
