Daniel Robertson (architect)
Daniel Robertson (died 1849) was a British architect. Career Robertson may have worked under Robert Adam in London, England; later he worked at Kew and Oxford. Robertson was an early exponent of the Norman Revival, designing both St Clement's Church, OxfordSherwood & Pevsner, 1974, page 291 and St Swithun's parish church in Kennington, BerkshirePevsner, 1966, page 259 (now in Oxfordshire) in this style as early as 1828. Robertson then moved to Ireland, where he had considerable success and carried out commissions for notable country houses particularly in the southeastern part of the country. His work was in both the Neoclassical style and then in the Gothic Revival style of the 1830s with which he may be most associated. Daniel Robertson (British Army Officer)
Colonel Daniel Robertson (''c.'' 1733 – 5 April 1810) was an officer in the British Army in North America, commandant of the British post at Michilimackinac, and a landowner in Chatham Township, Canada. Born in Scotland, he first joined the 42nd Regiment of Foot, also known as the "Black Watch," and was present at the British capture of Montreal in 1760, as well as the invasion of Martinique in 1762. During the American Revolutionary War, he was an officer in the 84th Regiment of Foot, another regiment of Scots known as the Royal Highland Emigrants. In 1779, he was appointed commandant of Fort Osgewatchie and oversaw Native American raids on American settlements on the Mohawk River. From 1782, Robertson served as commandant of Fort Michilimackinac (later known as Fort Mackinac). He freed his black slaves, Jean Bonga and Marie-Jeanne Bonga, before leaving Mackinac Island for Montreal in 1787. Daniel Robertson (1813 – 1892) was a British colonial administrator who served as Colonial Secretary of the Gambia from 1849 to circa 1865. He was Acting Governor of the Gambia from April 1859 to September 1859, and in 1851. Biography Early life Robertson was born in Scotland. Colonial service Robertson arrived in the Gambia in 1832 as a surgeon for the Liberated Africans Department of the Gambian colonial government. On the advice of Anthony Clogstoun, he was promoted to Colonial Surgeon in 1838. Robertson was appointed as Colonial Secretary of the Gambia in June 1849. He served under Richard Graves MacDonnell, Arthur Kennedy, Luke Smythe O'Connor, and George Abbas Kooli D'Arcy. Daniel Ray Robertson (born March 22, 1994) is an American professional baseball infielder who is a free agent. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017 and has also played for the San Francisco Giants, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. Early life Robertson attended Upland High School in Upland, California. He batted .380 as a sophomore in 2010, with two home runs, 11 doubles, 33 runs batted in (RBIs) and 24 runs. Daniel Roger Robertson (born September 30, 1985) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Seattle Mariners, and Cleveland Indians. Robertson currently serves as bench coach of the Akron RubberDucks, the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. ''Daniel'' is an anonymous Old English poem based loosely on the Biblical Book of Daniel, found in the Junius Manuscript. The author and the date of ''Daniel'' are unknown. Critics have argued that Cædmon is the author of the poem, but this theory has been since disproved. ''Daniel'', as it is preserved, is 764 lines long. There have been numerous arguments that there was originally more to this poem than survives today. The majority of scholars, however, dismiss these arguments with the evidence that the text finishes at the bottom of a page, and that there is a simple point, which translators assume indicates the end of a complete sentence. ''Daniel'' contains a plethora of lines which Old English scholars refer to as “hypermetric” or long. Daniel is one of the four major Old Testament prophets, along with Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel.
