Daniel Evans (Welsh Poet)
Daniel Evans (1792 – 28 March 1846), better known by his pseudonym, Daniel Ddu o Geredigion, was a Welsh language poet. Life Evans was born at Maesymynach, a farm in the parish of Llanfihangel Ystrad, Cardiganshire. He was the second of three sons born to a farmer, David Evans. Daniel Evans attended the grammar school in Lampeter, where he was taught by Eliezer Williams, before attending Jesus College, Oxford. He matriculated in 1810, and obtained degrees of B.A. (1814), M.A. (1817) and B.D. (1824). In 1817, he was elected by the college to a fellowship, which he held until his death in 1846, but he resided mainly in Wales. Although Evans was ordained, he came to public attention as a poet rather than as a priest. He served briefly as chaplain of the Royal Military Asylum in Northampton, but resigned due to ill-health and returned home to his parents in Wales. He had no clerical appointments thereafter. Daniel Gwyn Evans (born 31 July 1973) is a Welsh actor and director. Background Evans was born in the Rhondda Valley in Wales. Evans started acting early in life, going to the Urdd Eisteddfod, and beginning to compete there from the age of five or six, as well as going to many amateur productions. He realised it was what he wanted to do aged 8, and aged 17, he won the Richard Burton Memorial Prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. A year later, he won the Chair at the Urdd Eisteddfod. He attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen near Pontypridd, a Welsh-language secondary school which has nurtured many actors. Daniel P. Evans (born January 27, 1960) is an American professional baseball executive. Within Major League Baseball, Evans was most recently a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is currently a member of the Baseball Prospectus Advisory Board, serves on the board of directors for the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) and is President of SABR's Rocky Mountain Chapter. Evans attended Lane Technical High School on Chicago's North Side and DePaul University. He started in baseball as an intern with the Chicago White Sox while a junior at DePaul University and was eventually promoted to Assistant General Manager. After almost 20 years, Evans resigned from the White Sox following the 2000 season. Daniel Evans (born 15 November 1988) is a Welsh rugby union player who plays as a full-back. Career Evans was part of the Scarlets U16 team that formed part of an age grade clean sweep for the region in the inaugural season of the Reebok Regional Championships, and was part of the Scarlets U18 team that lost to the Ospreys in the U18 Final the following season. He has been ranked as high as world No. 22 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he achieved on 27 September 2021, and is the current British No. 2 in singles. Daniel Silvan Evans (11 January 1818 – 12 April 1903) was a Welsh clergyman, scholar and lexicographer. Educated at the Independent College in Brecon, Silvan Evans worked as a schoolmaster for five years. On marriage he conformed to the Established Church, studying at St David's College, Lampeter, where he became lecturer in Welsh. Ordained deacon in 1848 and priest the following year he served curacies at Llandegwning parish in Llŷn and from 1852 to 1862 at nearby Llangian, Caernarfonshire. In 1862 he was appointed to the living of Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. Daniel Evans (16 January 1774 – 3 March 1835), was an independent minister at Mynyddbach, Glamorganshire, Wales. Life Evans was born at Maindala, Eglwyswrw, Pembrokeshire, 16 January 1774. As a youth he was fond of frequenting prayer-meetings in private houses. At an early age he became church member, and soon afterwards began preaching with great enthusiasm from house to house. He thus trained himself for the future work, and became very successful as a missionary. His first settlement was at Llanwrtyd, Brecknockshire, as co-pastor with the Rev. Isaac Price, from 1796 to 1799. He went in 1799 to Bangor, where his congregation had but twenty-five members, who were not able to give him 10l. a year. He often wondered what could have brought him to so poor a place, but thanked God that he had a little private means.
