Daniel Doran (cricketer)
Daniel John Doran (born 18 June 1981) is an Australian politician and cricketer who currently serves as the councillor for Division 11 on the City of Gold Coast. He formerly played for Queensland in Australian domestic cricket as a right-arm leg break bowler. Cricket career Doran made his first-class debut in 2005–06 against Western Australia and took five wickets. Despite starting the season without a rookie contract, he ended it with a Pura Cup trophy and a place at the Academy. He got 3 wickets in the batting dominated final, including the vital wicket of David Hussey with his first ball of the second innings. His figures for the summer were 15 wickets at 28.46. The City of Gold Coast is the local government area spanning the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and surrounding areas. The Gold Coast District Cricket Club is a cricket club on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia who play in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition. The club was founded in 1990. It has won the Queensland Premier Cricket First Grade Premiership twice, in the 2002/03 and 2008/09 seasons, the competitions One-Day Premiership twice, in 1992/93 and 2009/10, and the Twenty20 Premiership twice in 2009/10 and 2020/21. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Independent Liberal is a description used in Australian politics, often to designate a politician who is a Liberal Party member but not endorsed by the party at elections. It has also been used by politicians and political candidates who identify as a liberal, but independent from the party. Independent Liberals are present at the local level in several councils. For example, the Liberal Party chose not to endorse candidates in several Sydney councils for the 2021 local elections, with the elected members contesting as independents despite being affiliated with the Liberal Party. The 2024 Gold Coast City Council election was held on 16 March 2024 to elect a mayor and 14 councillors to the City of Gold Coast. Queensland Premier Cricket is the top cricket competition played in Queensland, Australia. The competition was founded under the name Brisbane Electoral Cricket in 1897 and eventually came to be known as Brisbane Grade Cricket, but has since expanded to take in teams from Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Ipswich. As of the 2019/20 season there were six grades in the Two-Day Bulls Masters competition. In addition to the two-day Grade competition there is also a One-Day competition for the John McKnoulty Cup and a T20 competition for the Tom Veivers Trophy. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. At a federal level and in most other states, the two parties remain distinct and operate as a Coalition.
