Damaturu is a Local Government Area and the capital city of Yobe State in northern Nigeria. It is the headquarters of the Damaturu Emirate. History Damaturu came into existence as a colony when it was carved out of the Alagarno district by the British. It resulted in the conquest of the Bornu Empire in 1902 by colonial forces under the command of Colonel Thomas Morland. Boko Haram Damaturu has been attacked many times by Boko Haram jihadist insurgents in their violent campaign to establish a caliphate in the northeast. In November 2011, they killed over 100 people in a series of attacks. In December 2011, they carried out two bombings. In June 2012, 40 insurgents broke into a prison. 40 inmates escaped and eight people were killed. In June 2013, insurgents attacked a school and killed thirteen people, including students and teachers. Damaturu Prison Break
The Damaturu prison break was an attack on the Jimeta prison at Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State in the northeastern Nigeria by 40 gunmen suspected to be members of the terrorist group Boko Haram. The attack is thought to have been a bid to rescue imprisoned members of Boko Haram. About 40 prisoners escaped from the prison; seven inmates and one prison warden died. The escaped prisoners were largely members of the insurgent. Incident The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, 4 June 2012. It was reported that the terrorist attacked the prison through the Emir's palace during curfew hours imposed by the Yobe state government. The entrance of the terrorists drew the attention of the armed prison guards and other security agencies within the prison, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the Boko Haram and security personnel. A3 Highway (Nigeria)
The A3 highway is a highway in Nigeria. It runs generally north from Port Harcourt through Aba, Umuahia, Okigwe, Enugu, Ngwo, Makurdi, Lafia, Jos, Bauchi and Potiskum thence east via Damaturu and Maiduguri to the border with Cameroon at Gamboru. The continuation through Cameroon connects to N'Djamena, the capital of Chad.
