Daljit Singh was an Indian politician who served in the Delhi Legislative Assembly following the 1951 election. Singh stood as the Indian National Congress candidate in the Safdar Jang constituency. Raja Sir Daljit Singh (7 December 1882 – 6 November 1946) was a politician born in Kapurthala. He is considered as the first prime minister of Jammu and Kashmir (1917–1921) before Indian independence. Early life and education Singh was born in 1882 as the grandson of Maharaja Nihal Singh, who ruled the Sikh Kingdom of Kapurthala from 1836 to 1852. He received his education at Aitchison College in Lahore, where he had aristocratic classmates, including King Thibaw Min of Burma. Scholarly contributions Singh displayed a deep intellectual inclination, studying philosophy and scriptures. He authored several books in English, including works on Guru Nanak's life and teachings and Guru Tegh Bahadur's hymns. He also ventured into writing in "Braj bhasha" on Shri Krishna and published his work in notable publications like "Tri Dhara" and the Krishna Ank of the Gita Press Gorakhpur. Daljit Singh (born 1940–1941) is an Indian former first-class cricketer and pitch curator. He played for various teams during his career from 1961/62 to 1978/79. After his playing career, he became a pitch curator and chairman of the grounds and pitches committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Life and career Singh was a wicket-keeper batsman who appeared in 87 first-class and 3 List A matches. The teams he represented include Services, Northern Punjab, Delhi, Bihar, North Zone and East Zone. He was a prolific wicket-keeper and batsman, effecting more than 200 dismissals and scoring close to 4000 runs. He was working for the Indian Navy when he started his cricket career with Services.
