Geography Daintree is a settlement in North Queensland north of Cairns and from Port Douglas, Queensland. The McDowell Ranges are near the town while the Daintree River flows nearby. The Daintree River is a river that rises in the Daintree Rainforest near Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland, Australia. The river is located about northwest of Cairns in the UNESCO World Heritagelisted Wet Tropics of Queensland. The area is now primarily a tourist attraction. Daintree National Park
The Daintree rainforest is a national park in Far North Queensland, Australia, northwest of Brisbane and northwest of Cairns. It was founded in 1981 and is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland. In 1988 it became a World Heritage Site. The park consists of two sections, with a settled agricultural area between them which includes the towns of Mossman and Daintree Village. One entrance to Daintree National Park is located south of the Daintree River at Mossman Gorge where a visitor centre has been built from where tourists take a shuttle bus to the gorge, where they can take a walk or a refreshing swim. The most spectacular and oldest part of the Daintree Rainforest is north of the Daintree River. Richard Daintree
Richard Daintree CMG (13 December 1832 – 20 June 1878) was a pioneering Australian geologist and photographer. In particular, Daintree was the first Government geologist for North Queensland discovering gold fields and coal seams for future exploitation. Daintree was a pioneer in the use of photography during field trips and his photographs formed the basis of Queensland's contribution to the Exhibition of Arts and Industry in 1871. Following the success of the display, he was appointed as Queensland's Agent-General in London in 1872 but was forced to resign in 1876 due to ill-health and malpractice by some of his staff although not Daintree himself. John Dodson Daintree
Captain John Dodson Daintree, CBE (2January 186421September 1952) was a British Royal Navy officer, who served as Commissioner of Weihaiwei from 1901 to 1902, and as Inspector-General of the Coast Guard service after its formation in 1923. Naval career Daintree joined the Royal Navy in 1879, and was posted as a supernumerary naval cadet to , serving on the North America station. He was a sub-lieutenant when posted to for navigating duties in January 1886, and was promoted to lieutenant later the same year, on 2 October 1886. The following year, he was on 13 September 1887 posted to , in the Mediterranean Fleet, and a year later to in October 1888. Promoted to commander on 31 December 1899, he was in March 1900 transferred to the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, for Compass course, and the following month posted as a lieutenant for navigation to the HMS ''Amphitrite''. The Daintree rainbowfish (''Cairnsichthys bitaeniatus'') is a species of rainbowfish endemic to Australia. This species is endemic to the wet tropics of north eastern Queensland where it has been recorded from the Cooper Creek and nearby Hutchinson Creek systems of the Daintree region of north-eastern Queensland. This species occurs in small clear, shady rainforest streams which flow over a substrate consisting of rock, sand, gravel and log debris. Within these streams the fishes swim near the surface to midwater depths and are frequently found in the deeper pools of these streams where there is a faster current. Daintree River Ferry
The Daintree River Ferry is a cable ferry across the Daintree River in Queensland, Australia. The ferry is situated some north of Port Douglas, and gives access to the northern section of the Daintree National Park and to Cape Tribulation. The ferry provides the only sealed road access to this area. The 43.2m ferry carries a maximum of 27 vehicles, and takes about 5 minutes to cross the river. It operates from early morning until midnight, seven days a week, with limited hours on Christmas Day. The ferry is operated by a commercial contractor on behalf of the Douglas Shire Council.
