'' Dagboek van een Oude Dwaas '' is a 1987 Dutch film directed by Lili Rademakers. It is based on a book by the Japanese writer Jun'ichirō Tanizaki. The film's international title is ''Diary of a Mad Old Man.'' The film was selected for the ''Semaine de la Critique'' from the Cannes film festival in 1988. Plot Hamelinck, an already old man, suffers from a severe muscle disease and must stop working. It bothers him not long, because he gets under the spell of his daughter-in-law Simone. He admired her for years already, but now overwhelms her with gifts and treats her like a queen. He acts also submissive and is delighted as he can touch her leg. ''Lili'' is a 1953 American film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, MGM. It stars Leslie Caron as a touchingly naïve French girl whose emotional relationship with a carnival puppeteer is conducted through the medium of four puppets. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score, and was also entered in the 1953 Cannes Film Festival. It was later adapted for the stage under the title ''Carnival!'' (1961). ''Lili's'' screenplay, written by Helen Deutsch, was based on a short story and treatment titled "The Seven Souls of Clement O'Reilly" written by Paul Gallico, which in turn was based upon "The Man Who Hated People," a short story by Gallico that appeared in the October 28, 1950 issue of ''The Saturday Evening Post''. Beatrice Edney (born 23 October 1962) is an English television actress. Born in London, she is the daughter of actress Sylvia Syms and her husband Alan Edney. Her brother is Benjamin Edney and her cousin is musician Nick Webb. Dora van der Groen (10 March 1927 – 8 November 2015) was a Belgian actress and theatre director. She appeared in more than 120 films and television shows between 1945 and 2003.
