James McBride Dabbs
James McBride Dabbs (May 8, 1896 – May 30, 1970) was an American author and farmer from South Carolina known for his writings on religion and Southern culture. He has been recognized as one of the South's leading liberals during his time. Dabbs was cited in Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail as a Southern writer who wrote about the struggle of African Americans in "eloquent and prophetic terms." He has also been called the only native Southern critic during the civil rights movement who saw "more good than ill in the Southern tradition." Ellen Lawson Dabbs
Mary Ellen Lawson Dabbs (April 25, 1853 – August 19, 1908) was a Texas physician, women's rights activist and writer. Dabbs was an advocate of women's suffrage and of the temperance movement. She was an officer in the Texas Equal Rights Association (TERA). Dabbs also believed that African American women deserved the right to vote in the same manner as white women. Biography Dabbs was born in Rusk County in Texas the only girl of 8 siblings. She grew up on a cotton plantation and was allowed to participate in activities normally reserved for men at the time. Her primary education was in Rusk County and when she was fourteen, she attended school in Gilmer. Dabbs taught for a short time. Isaac Dabbs
Isaac Dabbs was an American politician who served on the Virginia House of Delegates from 1875 to 1877. Biography Dabbs was born into slavery on a plantation in Charlotte County, Virginia. As slave births were not frequently recorded there is no exact date for his birth but he was likely born in the late 1840s. He was freed at some undetermined point in time and on December 29, 1869, he married Sarah Ann Brown, with whom he had at least two sons. Dabbs was illiterate for most of his life, a fact that had been reported upon in literature about his political career, but it is believed that he learned to read and write by 1900 according to census reports. After his wife Sarah died in 1884 Dabbs would later remarry in 1898, a marriage that produced no children. Dabbs moved to Baltimore two years later, where he was recorded in his ward's census on April 27, 1910. He is believed to have died shortly after this point as he was not in the following census. Sarah Mavis Dabbs (March 10, 1922 – May 14, 2000) was a fourth outfielder who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Listed at 5' 5", 130 lb., she batted and threw right handed. Sarah Dabbs played softball in her home state of Florida during ten years before joining the league. Benjamin Edwin Dabbs (17 April 1909 – 30 December 2000) was an English footballer who played as a full-back defender for Liverpool in The Football League. Born at Oakengates, Shropshire, Dabbs started his career at Oakengates Town in 1926 before he signed for Liverpool in 1932. During his first two seasons at the latter club he only made 3 appearances, however the following two seasons saw him play 45 times. After these two seasons he was unable to establish himself in the first team and moved to Watford in 1938. Although he was on the Watford books until 1946, his last play was in three Southern League appearances in the incomplete 1939–40 season which was cut short by the Second World War. Dabbs Store
The Dabbs Store is a historic retail building at 1320 South Avalon Street in West Memphis, Arkansas, United States. It is a brick two-story structure, located near the railroad tracks and the site of a now-demolished train depot in an isolated area of West Memphis. The building has two storefronts and a central entrance leading to the upper floor, which houses residential spaces. The storefronts are similarly styled but differ in size, that on the left is wider due to larger windows flanking its entrance. The windows of the storefronts are mounted on decorative wooden panels, and there are a series of large transom windows above the porch roof, matching the width of each storefront. Built in 1912, it is one of the oldest surviving commercial structures in the city. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Longview were a British indie rock band from Manchester, England. History Its members were chief songwriter Rob McVey, guitarist Doug Morch, bassist Aidan Banks and drummer Francesco Mendolia. Original drummer Matt Dabbs left the band for family reasons during 2007. German electronic musician and record producer Ulrich Schnauss joined the band between 2005 and 2010 but left to concentrate on various other projects. The band formed in Manchester in 2002, and built its reputation with several appearances at The Night and Day Café. Longview subsequently signed to 14th Floor Recordings. Their only album, ''Mercury'', was released in July 2003. Several singles were released from the album including their best known song, "Further", which featured on ''One Tree Hill'' and in commercials for the US Open.
