Dutch Basketball League
The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly the Eredivisie, was the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). Since 2021, the league has been replaced by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. The league had a closed system: to participate, a team has to have enough money and potential. The league began in 1960 as the ''Eredivisie'' and was organized by the NBB and later the FEB. In 1977 the league introduced play-offs. As of 2019, the Dutch Basketball League consists of ten teams and plays under the FIBA rules. History 2010s Starting with the 2010–11 season, the Eredivisie changed its name to the Dutch Basketball League, shortly the DBL. The beginning of the 2010s saw Donar and ZZ Leiden emerge as top teams in the Netherlands. Donar won five titles, including three straight (2015-2018). Velser Basketballclub Akrides or simply Akrides is a professional basketball club based in IJmuiden, Netherlands. History Akrides was founded on October 5, 1961 by Joop Roosenstein. In 1987, the first men's team under the name ''ESTS Akrides'' promoted to the Eredivisie, where it remained two seasons. In 1990 Akrides again played in the premier league, then under the name ''Bestmate Akrides'' and coming from Haarlem. After three years, the team was moved back to IJmuiden. After the season 1996/1997 Akrides relegated again. Highlights in the history of Akrides are the winning of the Dutch Cup in 1990 and 1991. Heroes Den Bosch is a Dutch professional basketball club based in 's-Hertogenbosch. The club plays in the BNXT League since 2021 and in the top basketball division in the Netherlands since 1972. Founded as EBBC in 1951, the club had several sponsored names the following decades. Den Bosch has won a record seventeen Dutch championships, seven Dutch Cup and two Dutch Supercup titles. ZZ Leiden Basketball, also known as Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden, is a basketball club based in Leiden, Netherlands. The club plays in the BNXT League, the domestic first tier league. Their home games are played at Vijf Meihal, which has 2,000 seats. ZZ Leiden has won the national championship four times, the NBB Cup three times, the Dutch Supercup three times and the BNXT championship once. West-Brabant Giants was a Dutch professional basketball club based in Bergen op Zoom. The club was established in 2003 and dissolved in 2011. The team played its games at Sporthal de Boulevard and its main colors were red and white. History The club was established in 2003 and was called Fun 4 All, for sponsorship reasons. The club entered the Dutch Basketball League, and ended 10th in the regular season. Matrixx Magixx
Matrixx Magixx was a professional basketball team based in Nijmegen and later Wijchen. The club played in the Dutch Basketball League (DBL), the Dutch top-tier league. Home games of the Magixx were played in Sporthal De Arcus since 2012, therefore De Horstacker was used. The long time main sponsor of the team was The Matrixx. In 2014, Magixx departed from the DBL after the club could not find funding. Founded as a new team from Nijmegen after the departure of Nijmegen, the club played in the DBL for nine straight seasons. Its biggest success was the NBB Cup championship in 2006–07, when Magixx beat Donar in the final. In the 2011–12 season, Magixx finished as runners-up in the DBL.
