''Der Graf von Gleichen'' D 918 is an unfinished 1827 opera in two acts by Franz Schubert after a libretto by Eduard Bauernfeld. Eduard Bauernfeld
Eduard von Bauernfeld (13 January 1802 – 9 August 1890), Austrian dramatist, was born at Vienna. Life Having studied jurisprudence at the University of Vienna, he entered the government service in a legal capacity, and after holding various minor offices was transferred in 1843 to a responsible post on the Lottery Commission. He had already embarked upon politics, and severely criticized the government in a pamphlet, ''Pie Desideria eines österreichischen Schriftstellers'' (1842); and in 1845 he made a journey to England, after which his political opinions became more pronounced. After the Revolution, in 1848, he quit the government service in order to devote himself entirely to letters. He lived in Vienna until his death, and was ennobled for his work. As a writer of comedies and farces, Bauernfeld takes high rank among the German playwrights of the century; his plots are clever, the situations witty and natural and the diction elegant. Richard Dünser (born 1 May 1959) is an Austrian composer of stage works, orchestral music and chamber music, among others. Life Born in Bregenz, Dünser studied composition after his Matura first at the of his hometown and later at the Vienna Academy of Music with Francis Burt. From 1985 to 1987, he studied composition with Hans Werner Henze at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, and in 1987 he was a composition fellow there. He was for a summer composition scholar in Tanglewood, U.S. From 1987, he taught composition at the Innsbruck department of the Mozarteum University Salzburg as well as at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory, and in 1991 he was appointed professor of music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he has also led a composition class since 2004. Styriarte (also written styriarte) is an annual summer festival of classical music in Graz and Styria, Austria, established in 1985. It is focused on Early music, Baroque music and music of the Classical period. Intended to showcase the work of Nikolaus Harnoncourt in his hometown, it grew to locations in the region and survived his death. History Kurt Jungwirth, as ''Kulturlandesrat'' responsible for cultural politics in the state of Styria, wanted to tie conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt closer to his hometown Graz. The focus of the first Styriarte was Johann Sebastian Bach, with Harnoncourt's Concentus Musicus Wien playing a leading role. The festival was directed by Andrea Herberstein and Wolfgang Schuster, a member of the Wiener Philharmoniker. The first festival was staged in the summer of 1985.
