D'Arcy-McGee
D'Arcy-McGee is a provincial electoral district in the Montreal region of the province of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It consists of the cities of Côte-Saint-Luc and Hampstead and part of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of the city of Montreal. It is the only provincial electoral district in Quebec with a Jewish plurality. It is considered to be one of the safest districts in Quebec for the Liberals; in the 2014 provincial election the Liberals garnered 92% of the vote, making it the most secure seat in the province. It was created for the 1966 election from parts of the former Montréal-Outremont and Westmount–Saint-Georges electoral districts. The boundaries of the D'Arcy-McGee electoral district on the 2011 electoral map are identical to the previous boundaries. Lawrence Bergman
Lawrence S. Bergman (born December 6, 1940) is a Canadian politician in Quebec, Canada. He was a minister of the government of Quebec from 2003 to 2007, the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of D'Arcy-McGee in Montreal's west end from 1994 to 2014, and Chairperson of the Government Caucus in the parliamentary office of Quebec. Biography Born in Montreal, Quebec, Bergman received a Bachelor of Arts from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia University) in 1961. In 1964, he received a Diploma from the Faculty of Law of Université de Montréal. He became a notary in 1965. Mont-Royal is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located within the island of Montreal, and comprises the city of Mount Royal and part of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of Montreal. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of D'Arcy-McGee, Dorion and Outremont electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was unchanged. Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (, ) is a borough (''arrondissement'') of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The borough was created following the 2002 municipal reorganization of Montreal. It comprises two main neighbourhoods, Côte-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, both former towns that were annexed by the city of Montreal in 1910. Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is the most populous borough of Montreal, with a population of 166,520 according to the 2016 Census. David Birnbaum
David Birnbaum (born April 8, 1956) is a Canadian politician, activist, and former journalist. Birnbaum was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 election. He represented the electoral district of D'Arcy-McGee as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party until his retirement from politics at the 2022 Quebec general election. He was the Opposition Critic for Indigenous Affairs, and was formerly the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education and Higher Education, and was the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier of Quebec. Outremont was a provincial electoral district in the city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. It comprised all of the borough of Outremont and parts of the boroughs of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal (part of Mile End), Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (part of Côte-des-Neiges) and a very small part of Ville-Marie. It was created for the 1966 election from parts of Montréal-Outremont and Westmount–Saint-Georges electoral districts. Thomas D'Arcy McGee
Thomas D'Arcy McGee (13 April 18257 April 1868) was an Irish-Canadian politician, Catholic spokesman, journalist, poet, and a Father of Canadian Confederation. The young McGee was an Irish Catholic who opposed British rule in Ireland, and was part of the Young Ireland attempts to overthrow British rule and create an independent Irish Republic. He escaped arrest and fled to the United States in 1848, where he reversed his political beliefs. He became disgusted with American republicanism, Anti-Catholicism, and Classical Liberalism. McGee became intensely conservative in his political beliefs and in his religious support for the embattled Pope Pius IX. Côte Saint-Luc (; also spelled Côte-Saint-Luc, and known historically in English as Cote St. Luke) is a city on the island of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. Geography Along with Hampstead and Montreal West, Côte Saint-Luc forms an enclave within Montreal. Côte Saint-Luc also has two exclaves sandwiched between Hampstead and the city of Montreal. Blair Timmothy Longley (born September 25, 1950) is a Canadian politician and activist. Early life Blair Longley was born on September 25, 1950, in Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in North Vancouver. Career Longley attended the founding meeting of the Green Party of Canada at Carleton University in November 1983. He went on to be an active member of the Rhinoceros Party of which he was an official agent from 1985 to 1987. He joined the Marijuana Party shortly after its foundation and became the party's leader in 2004, following the resignation of Marc-Boris St-Maurice. Hampstead is an on-island suburb of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is an independent municipality, surrounded by the boroughs of Montreal. History The Town of Hampstead was founded in 1914.
