D. Scott MacNutt
Donald Scott MacNutt (May 5, 1935 – September 13, 2010) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Dartmouth South in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1974. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. MacNutt was born in Digby, Nova Scotia. He attended St. Francis Xavier University and was a businessman. In 1961, he married Anna Dawn Reid. He died on September 13, 2010, aged 75, following a brief bout with cancer. MacNutt entered provincial politics in the 1970 election, defeating Progressive Conservative incumbent I. W. Akerley by 91 votes in Dartmouth South. On October 28, 1970, MacNutt was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Health. Digby, Nova Scotia
Digby is an incorporated town in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada. It is in the historical Digby County, Nova Scotia, county of Digby and a separate municipality from the Municipality of the District of Digby. The town is situated on the western shore of the Annapolis Basin near the entrance to the Digby Gut, which connects the basin to the Bay of Fundy. Named after Robert Digby (Royal Navy officer), Admiral Robert Digby, the town has a scallop fishing fleet. The MV Fundy Rose, MV ''Fundy Rose'' ferry service connects the town to Saint John, New Brunswick. History Digby is called Oositookun, meaning ear of land, by the Mi'kmaq. Executive Council Of Nova Scotia
The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. 1998 Nova Scotia General Election
The 1998 Nova Scotia general election was held on March 24, 1998 to elect members of the 57th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. The Liberal party and the New Democratic Party tied in the seat count, with 19 each, while the Progressive Conservatives won 14 seats. The Liberals went on to form a minority government with the support of the Progressive Conservatives. Background Liberal Premier John Savage was elected in a landslide in 1993. The Liberals inherited a $471-million deficit, and launched an austerity program which cut the province's health and education systems. On April 1, 1997, the provincial government imposed a 15% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) which merged the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
