D.V.S. Senior Honor Society
The D.V.S. Senior Honor Society is an honor society at Emory University in Atlanta. Founded in 1902, D.V.S. admits seven seniors each year based on their campus leadership, dedication to Emory, and academic excellence. It is the oldest of Emory's five secret societies. The other societies are the Paladin Society, Ducemus, Speculum, and The Order of Ammon. Previous members of D.V.S. include Emory presidents, Board of Trustees chairs, and half of the Rhodes Scholars in Emory's history. Membership is kept secret until graduation, when the seven current members' names are printed in the Commencement announcements. The activities of the society and the meaning of its letters are not revealed publicly. D.V.S. provides Emory with the University Mace, which is carried during Convocation and Commencement. In the United States, an honor society is a rank organization that recognizes excellence among peers. Numerous societies recognize various fields and circumstances. The Order of the Arrow, for example, is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America. Chiefly, the term refers to scholastic honor societies, those that recognize students who excel academically or as leaders among their peers, often within a specific academic discipline. Many honor societies invite students to become members based on the scholastic rank (the top x% of a class) and/or grade point averages of those students, either overall, or for classes taken within the discipline for which the honor society provides recognition. The Order Of Ammon
The Order of Ammon is a secret society for seniors at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Membership in the group is a secret for life. History Although the Order of Ammon existed on the Emory University campus in the past, its history is relatively unknown. In 1998, the Order of Ammon sent a letter to the university, calling the other secret societies "juvenile" and "pretentious".
