D'Influence
D'Influence (also D-Influence and D*Influence) is a British production team and acid jazz band. Formerly of The Echo Label, they founded their own label, Freakstreet Records. Original members include Kwame Kwaten, Sarah-Ann Webb, Ed Baden-Powell, and Steve Marston. Biography D'Influence emerged in 1990 from the UK club scene. The group went on to issue their debut album titled '' Good 4 We'' in August 1992. The album reached No. 7 on the ''Blues & Soul'' Top British Soul Albums chart. The song "Good Lover" from the LP got to No. 11 on the ''Blues & Soul'' Top British Soul Singles chart. D'Influence later issued in 1995 their sophomore studio album, ''Prayer 4 Unity''. The album reached No. 17 on the UK R&B Albums chart. A song off the album, "Midnite" reached No. 17 on the UK R&B Singles chart. Good 4 We
''Good 4 We'' is the debut studio album of British group D-Influence. It was released in 1992 by East West Records. The album was produced by D-Influence themselves, along with producers Blacksmith. "I'm the One" was released in 1989 on Acid Jazz Records and then again in 1990. "Good Lover" was a club hit but only reached No. 66 on the official top 40. However, it was ranked No. 7 on the ''Blues & Soul'' all-time top 20 songs. The Good 4 We tour saw the band perform across the world at over 150 shows. They appeared on the first-ever ''Later with Jools Holland'' show and toured with Michael Jackson and Prince. They also toured the US supporting Digable Planets, Naughty by Nature and Trouble Funk. "Raincloud" is a song by British group Lighthouse Family, released as the duo's first single from their second studio album, '' Postcards from Heaven'' (1997). The song was produced by Mike Peden. Released on 29 September 1997, "Raincloud" reached the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at 6. "From a Desert to a Beach" is included as the B-side on the "Raincloud" single. This track was not included on any of Lighthouse Family's albums apart from their remix album, '' Relaxed & Remixed'' (2004). Kwame Kwaten
Kwame Amankwa Kwaten (born 13 May 1967) is a British manager, music consultant, musician and record producer. He owns an artist management and consultancy company called Ferocious Talent and is a co-founder of Cr8ing Vision, a non-profit company that offers young people a range of educational programmes, seminars, workshops and opportunities in both the music and sport industries. Past and present artists managed by Kwaten include Laura Mvula, The Night VI, Steve Brown, Shannon Saunders and Kerry Leatham. In 1989, Kwaten was part of a band, D-Influence, who were opening acts for Michael Jackson, and produced tracks for a number of prominent musicians including Shola Ama, Jay-Z and Mick Jagger. "New Kind of Medicine" is a 1998 song by American recording artist Ultra Naté, released as the third single from her third album, '' Situation: Critical'' (1998). "You Might Need Somebody" is a song written by Tom Snow and Nan O'Byrne, and first recorded in 1980 by American singer and guitarist Turley Richards. The following year, American jazz and R&B singer Randy Crawford released her version which charted well in the United Kingdom and was a modest hit in Flanders (Belgium) and New Zealand. Shola Ama
Shola Ama (born 8 March 1979) is a British singer from London, who scored her biggest hits with "You Might Need Somebody" (1997), a cover of Randy Crawford's 1981 hit, " You're the One I Love" and "Still Believe" (1999) which was one of the first productions by the Norwegian producing team Stargate. Career When she was 15, Ama was singing to herself on a platform at Hammersmith tube station, and was overheard by Kwame Kwaten, a producer at the FreakStreet record label. In 1995, an unknown independent label released a single titled "Celebrate", which was a ballad produced by D'Influence. The Echo Label
The Echo Label was a British record label started by Chrysalis Group in 1994, and linked with Pony Canyon in Japan. The Chrysalis Group were the original owners of Chrysalis Records, which they sold to EMI. In 2005, The Echo Label recorded a loss of over £2.0 million. The decision was taken to restructure the business at the beginning of the 2006 financial year, into an "incubator" for developing writer-artists with the intention of "upstreaming" them to a major label. The signings which resulted from this included Bat for Lashes, Steven Lindsay, Rosalie Deighton, Jacob Golden and Sarabeth Tucek. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
