Cóbano
Cóbano is a district of the Puntarenas canton, in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. History During the colonial period the entire Nicoya peninsula was administratively part of the Partido de Nicoya (nowadays Guanacaste), it was at the beginning of the 20th century that President Alfredo González Flores signed a decree that transferred the administration of Lepanto along with Paquera and Cóbano (towns in the extreme south of the Nicoya peninsula) to the province of Puntarenas. This was due to the fact that at that time it was faster to reach Paquera by sea by boat from Puntarenas, than by the existing land routes to Nicoya. At present there is a certain political impulse in Guanacaste to administratively reincorporate the entire Nicoya peninsula into the province of Guanacaste, arguing that the Inter-American Highway allows rapid land communication with Guanacaste, in addition they argue that the word Guanacaste is internationally associated with tourism and that ther ... National Route 160 (Costa Rica)
National Secondary Route 160, or just Route 160 ( es, Ruta Nacional Secundaria 160, or ) is a National Road Route of Costa Rica, located in the Guanacaste, Puntarenas provinces. The road is between Naranjo ferry terminal and Route 21 in Nicoya peninsula, and again with Route 21 at Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. Description A mostly gravel road, it approximately follows the coastline of southern section of the Nicoya Peninsula. It starts at the end of Route 21 at the Naranjo ferry terminal, and goes south to the Paquera ferry terminal, this section is paved. From there it turns west and goes near the beach and airport of Tambor and then the town of Cóbano. The northwest bound segment of the road from here to Puerto Carrillo can only be driven in the dry season, and only with off-road capable vehicles. Puntarenas is a canton in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. The head city is Puntarenas. History Puntarenas was created on 7 December 1848 by decree 167. Tourism In Costa Rica
Tourism in Costa Rica has been one of the fastest growing economic sectors of the country and by 1995 became the largest foreign exchange earner. Since 1999, tourism has earned more foreign exchange than bananas, pineapples and coffee exports combined. The tourism boom began in 1987, with the number of visitors up from 329,000 in 1988, through 1.03 million in 1999, over 2 million in 2008, to a historical record of 2.66 million foreign visitors in 2015. In 2012, tourism contributed with 12.5% of the country's GDP and it was responsible for 11.7% of direct and indirect employment. Inter-American Highway
The Inter-American Highway (IAH) is the Central American section of the Pan-American Highway and spans between Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and Panama City, Panama. History The idea of a road being built across all of Central America became a tangible goal in 1923 as the United States began conducting aerial surveys using the United States Army new photo reconnaissance and photographic aerial mapping technology. However, the aerial mapping effort was not directly tied to the upcoming Inter-American Highway project and was conducted with the cooperation of several of the Central American republics.
