Césarine Davin-Mirvault
Césarine Henriette Flore Davin-Mirvault (June 3, 1773 – November 25, 1844) was a French artist and painter. She studied under Suvée, David and learned to paint miniatures from Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin. Biography Césarine Henriette Flore Davin-Mirvault was born in Paris and while her family was not part of the aristocracy it was well connected due to the fact that her godfather was a count and her godmother a marquise. She was the daughter of a geographer-engineer. Joseph-Benoît Suvée
Joseph-Benoît Suvée (3 January 1743 – 9 February 1807) was a Flemish painter strongly influenced by French neo-classicism. Biography Suvée was born in Bruges. Initially a pupil of Matthias de Visch, he came to France aged 19 and became a pupil of Jean-Jacques Bachelier. In 1771, he won the Prix de Rome. In Rome from 1772 to 1778, he prolonged the usual duration allowed to pensionaries of the French Academy in Rome. He was named an academician on his return to Paris and he opened an art school for young women at the Louvre. One of his students was Constance Mayer. He emulated and competed with Jacques-Louis David, earning his enduring hatred. Named the French Academy in Rome's director in 1792, replacing François-Guillaume Ménageot, he was imprisoned for a while in the Prison Saint-Lazare and only able to take up the post in 1801. After a brilliant career, and a six years' stay in Rome as the Academy's Director, he died there suddenly. His works include ''A ... Jacques-Louis David
Jacques-Louis David (; 30 August 1748 – 29 December 1825) was a French painter in the Neoclassicism, Neoclassical style, considered to be the preeminent painter of the era. In the 1780s, his cerebral brand of history painting marked a change in taste away from Rococo frivolity toward classical austerity and severity and heightened feeling, harmonizing with the moral climate of the final years of the Ancien Régime. David later became an active supporter of the French Revolution and friend of Maximilien Robespierre (1758–1794), and was effectively a dictator of the arts under the French First Republic, French Republic. Imprisoned after Robespierre's fall from power, he aligned himself with yet another political regime upon his release: that of Napoleon, the First Consul of France. Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin
Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin (August 15, 1759 – April 13, 1832) was a French miniature painter. Biography Augustin was born in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and died in Paris. He might have had some lessons from Jean-Baptiste Claudot and maybe also from Jean Girardet in Nancy. After a few months in Dijon in 1781 he arrived in Paris the same year where he soon earned fame. During the French Revolution days he travelled to Brest (1789) and to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges (1791). In 1800 he married his pupil Pauline Ducruet, 22 years younger than him. He worked for Napoleon and his entourage and, in 1806, received a gold medal in recognition of his skills. In 1814 Louis XVIII appointed him ''peintre ordinaire du Cabinet du roi,'' later ''peintre des Affaires étrangères'', and in 1819 ''peintre en miniature de la Chambre et du Cabinet du roi.''
