Czech Olympic Committee
The Czech Olympic Committee ( cs, Český olympijský výbor) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) representing the Czech Republic. History The Czech Olympic Committee is one of the oldest NOCs in the world, having been founded in 1899 as Bohemian Committee for the Olympic Games ( cs, Český výbor pro hry olympijské). It was transformed into the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee in 1919 and reconstituted under its original name in 1992, being formally recognized by the IOC again in 1993. Karel Gut
Karel Gut (16 September 1927 – 6 January 2014) was a Czech ice hockey player and coach, who later worked in sports management. He was born in Prague and later played in the Czechoslovak Extraliga. While Gut played soccer in his youth, he was better known as an, "offensive-minded hockey defenseman". Gut was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1998, and has also been inducted into the Czechoslovakian Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. He died on January 6, 2014, at the age of 86. Playing career Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Gut eventually began playing in the Czechoslovak Extraliga with Praha ATK. He later played for Tatra Smichov from 1951 to 1953. He would play the rest of his career with Spartak Praha Sokolova TJ. Gut also captained the Czechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team from 1952 to 1960. Vlastimil Melich (7 April 1928 in Vysoké nad Jizerou – 2 August 1978) was a Czechoslovakian Nordic skier who competed in the 1950s. At the 1952 Winter Olympics, he finished 16th in the Nordic combined event, 29th in the 18 km cross-country skiing event, and eighth in the 4 × 10 km cross country skiing relay. Jaroslav Volf
Jaroslav Volf (; born 29 September 1979, in Brandýs nad Labem) is a Czech slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1994 to 2013. Competing in four Summer Olympics, he won two medals in the C2 event with a silver in 2008 and a bronze in 2004. Volf also won nine medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with six golds (C2: 2006; C2 team: 1999, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2013) and three silvers (C2: 2003, 2013; C2 team: 2010). František Tikal
František Tikal (18 July 1933 – 10 August 2008) was a Czechoslovak ice hockey defenseman. He played 17 seasons in the Czechoslovak Extraliga for HC Sparta Praha and won two national titles. Internationally he played 59 games for Czechoslovakia, including 15 at the 1960 and 1964 Winter Olympics, and earned an Olympic bronze medal in 1964, placing fourth in 1960. He was named the best defender of the tournament at the 1964 Olympics and 1965 World Championships.
