The Czech Rugby League Association is the governing body for the sport of rugby league football in Czech Republic. The Association was formed during 4 October 2005. In 2011, the Czech Rugby League Association was admitted to affiliate membership of the Rugby League European Federation after reforming its governance. Rugby League European Federation
The European Rugby League (ERL) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. In the absence of other continental federations, ERL also controls rugby league in North America (including Central America), the Middle East and Africa. History 2003-2019 The federation was founded January 2003 following an initiative between Richard Lewis, Executive Chairman of Britain's Rugby Football League (RFL) and his French counterpart Jean Paul Ferre. The RLEF's first constitution was approved in January 2004 and the federation's first Board of Directors was elected. This first Board of Directors consisted of Jean Paul Ferre as President/Chairman and Richard Lewis as Deputy Chairman with Nigel Wood and Nicolas Larrat being the other Board members. The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. Rugby league in the Czech Republic began in 2006. The Czech national team played their first game on August 5, 2006 in Prague, losing 34-28 to the Netherlands. In 2007, the Czech Republic took part in the European Shield tournament. This tournament involved two other second-tier nations, Germany and Serbia. The Czechs lost 44-22 to Germany in Prague on August 4, and 56-16 to Serbia in Belgrade on August 18, and finished third. In 2011, the Czech Rugby League Association was given affiliate membership of the Rugby League European Federation. Czech rugby league's top club competition is the 1. liga ("1st League"). The current 1. liga champions are Mad Squirrels Vrchlabí, who beat Krupka Dragons, 32-10, in the 2023 Grand Final.
