Czech Republic At The 1994 Winter Olympics
The Czech Republic competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. It was the first Winter Games since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, and so the Czech Republic and Slovakia competed as independent teams. Cross-country skier Pavel Benc was the flag-bearer of the country in the opening ceremony – he thus had a chance to lead the last Winter Olympic Czechoslovak team in Albertville and the first ever Czech team in Lillehammer. Although the three medals won by Czechoslovakia in Albertville in 1992 were all won by Czech athletes (the ice hockey team had also three Slovaks), the result of Lillehammer Olympics were less satisfying as fifth places of ice hockey and Nordic combined teams were the Czech Republic’s best results. It can be explained with the growth of competition as the former Soviet Union countries entered their athletes (only Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia participated in the 1992 Winter Olympics besides the Unified Team). The Czech Olympic Committee ( cs, Český olympijský výbor) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) representing the Czech Republic. Martin Petrásek (born 26 March 1966, in Ostrov) is a former Czech cross-country skier who competed from 1988 to 2001. He earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and also finished 10th in the 10 km event at the 1991 championships. Václav Korunka
Václav Korunka (; born December 25, 1965, in Jilemnice) is a former Czech cross-country skier who raced from 1988 to 1999. He earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary while his best individual Winter Olympics finish was a 13th in the 50 km event in 1992. Korunka also won a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. His best individual finish at the World Championships was an eight in the 15 km event in those same championships. Korunka won three FIS races in his career as well. Nina Vasilyevna Gavrylyuk (russian: Ни́на Васи́льевна Гаврылю́к; born 13 April 1965) is a former Soviet (until 1991) and Russian cross-country skier who competed from 1987 to 2003. Born in Leningrad, she won four medals at the Winter Olympics with three golds (4 × 5 km relay: 1988, 1994, 1998) and one bronze (15 km: 1994). In Soviet time she trained at VSS Trud in Leningrad. Gavrylyuk's biggest success was at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, where she earned eleven medals. Kateřina Neumannová () (born 15 February 1973) is a Czech retired cross-country skier. She won an Olympic gold medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics, in the 30 km freestyle event. She is one of five cross country skiers to have competed at six Olympics. She was also the first Czech woman to appear in both a Summer and Winter Olympics, having participated in the mountain biking event at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Pierre Lueders
Pierre Fritz Lueders (born 26 September 1970) is a Canadian Olympic, world and World Cup champion bobsledder who competed from 1990 to 2010. He piloted both two-man and four-man bobsleigh, retiring after the 2010 Winter Olympics. He was named to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Biography Lueders grew up in Edmonton and went to Winterburn School for elementary and junior high. He attended Jasper Place High School for grades 10 through 12. Competitive career Originally a decathlete, in 1989 he switched to bobsleigh on the advice of a cousin who was a sportswriter in what was then East Germany, who suggested his build was better suited to the latter sport. Lillehammer Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track ( no, Lillehammer Olympiske Bob- og Akebane) is a bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track located at Hunderfossen in Lillehammer, Norway, north of the town center of Lillehammer.
