Cyrille Rose
Chrysogone Cyrille Rose (13 February 1830 in Lestrem, Pas-de-Calais – 1902 in Meaux)Pamela Weston, ''More Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past'', Fentone Music Ltd, p210, was an important French clarinetist, and served as principal clarinet at the Paris Opera. He was a teacher and composer of pedagogical material for the clarinet, much of which is still widely in use today. Cyrille's teacher was Hyacinthe Klosé. He studied under Klosé at the Paris Conservatoire, winning the Morceaux de Concours (Clarinet), First Prize in 1847. Lestrem (; ; ) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography A small farming and light industrial town, situated some north of Béthune and west of Lille, on the D122, D178 and D975 roads, by the banks of the Lawe River. History The town was all but destroyed during the First World War. In 1940, the small hamlet of Le Paradis, on the south side of the commune, was the scene of a massacre of British troops of the BEF, during the Battle of France.
