Cyrille Cottin II
Cyrille-Edouard Cottin (1870–1942) was a French industrialist and racing driver, co-founder of the Automobiles Cottin et Desgouttes company.Nick Georgano, ''The Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile'', Vol. 1, p. 340 Life Cyrille Edouard Cottin was the 4th of the 7 children of Cyrille Cottin who had married Louise Payen in 1863, hailing from a large family of the Lyon bourgeoisie, the descendants of which have had numerous alliances with French nobility. His father held his fortune from the family silk business created in 1830 and of which he was an associate: "Les petits fils de Claude-Joseph Bonnet". Due to the large number of descendants of the latter, the custom was that only the elder sons of each branch could enter the business. Thus, Cottin, who could not enter, created his own business and teamed with Pierre Desgoutte in 1906, when he was 36 years old. Cottin & Desgouttes was a French automobile manufacturer in the early the 20th century. History In 1904, Pierre Desgoutte started manufacturing automobiles under the name “Desgouttes & Cie”, in Lyon, France. The first model was the type A, powered by a 9.5-liter, 45 hp, six-cylinder engine. Only two cars of this type were built. In December 1905, a chassis with a four-cylinder, 24/40 hp engine was presented at the Salon de Paris. It exhibited many innovative features and enjoyed a huge success. At the beginning of 1906, Pierre Desgoutte was joined by a wealthy industrial partner, Cyrille Cottin. They decided to call the new company “Automobiles Cottin & Desgouttes”, Pierre Desgoutte acting as Technical Director, whereas Cyrille Cottin would manage Sales. Life Pierre Desgoutte was born at Saint-Hilaire-sous-Charlieu, in the arrondissement of Roanne in the Loire, son of Jean Desgoutte and Marie-Philiberte Plasse. André Citroën
André-Gustave Citroën (; 5 February 1878 – 3 July 1935) was a French industrialist and the founder of French automaker Citroën. He is remembered chiefly for the make of car named after him, but also for his application of double helical gears. Life and career Born in Paris in 1878, André-Gustave Citroën was the fifth and last child of Jewish parents, diamond merchant Levie Citroën and Masza Amelia Kleinman. He was a cousin of the British philosopher Sir A. J. Ayer (the only son of his aunt Reine). The Citroën family moved to Paris in 1873. Upon arrival, the French ''tréma'' was added to the Dutch surname (reputedly by one of André's teachers), changing Citroen to Citroën.
