Cyril Turton
Cyril Turton (20 September 1921 – January 2000) was an English footballer who played as a centre back for Frickley Colliery and Sheffield Wednesday. Playing career Turton began his football career as an amateur for Frickley Colliery where he played for two years before turning professional, with the club beating off interest from several Football League clubs to retain his services. In 1946 he joined Sheffield Wednesday, where he went on to make over 150 Football League and FA Cup appearances. Despite becoming a regular between 1947 and 1949 Turton fell out of favour and made his first appearance in 18 months in November 1950. In January 1951 it was revealed by Eric Taylor that Turton had asked (not for the first time) to be placed on the transfer list as he felt that the Hillsborough crowd was against him. South Kirkby
South Kirkby is a town in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England which is governed locally by South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council. The town forms half of the civil parish of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe. The parish has a population of 10,979. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Frickley Colliery F
Frickley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England in the civil parish of Clayton with Frickley. It lies close to the border with West Yorkshire. Local landmarks All Saints Church Frickley All Saints Church is situated about from the main village in the middle of a field, accessed by a lane from the road. The reason for this unusual site stems back to plague times, when Frickley village was effectively burnt to the ground and re-sited on the top of the hill following a plague epidemic. The only proof that the village was ever anywhere else is the oddly sited church. Being the only stone building of the time, it was left where it was, and survives to this day as an active place of worship in the Parish of Bilham.
