Cyril Dunne
Cyril Dunne (born 1941 in Ballinasloe, County Galway) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for his local club St Grellan's GFC and at senior level for the Galway county team in the 1960s, when he won three consecutive All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals in 1964, 1965 and 1966. St Grellan's GFC
St Grellan's Gaelic Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Ghrealláin Naofa) was a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The team was named in honour of Saint Grellan, patron saint of Ballinasloe. St Grellan's GFC were the first club to win a record seven Galway county football titles in a row from 1913 to 1919 and were undefeated in the county championship from 1913 to 1930. In 1980, they were also the first Galway Club to reach an All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1980. Connacht ( ; ga, Connachta or ), is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the west of Ireland. Until the ninth century it consisted of several independent major Gaelic kingdoms (Uí Fiachrach, Uí Briúin, Uí Maine, Conmhaícne, and Delbhna). Ballinasloe Gaelic Footballers
Ballinasloe ( ; ) is a town in the easternmost part of County Galway in Connacht. Located at an ancient crossing point on the River Suck, evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of Bronze Age sites. Built around a 12th-century castle, which defended the fording point, the modern town of Ballinasloe was "founded" in the early 13th century. The Galway county football team ( ) represents Galway in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Galway GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. John Dunne (Gaelic Footballer)
John "Tull" Dunne (26 December 1911 – 12 May 1990) was an Irish Gaelic football coach, player, referee and Gaelic games administrator. His football championship career at senior level with the Galway county team lasted ten seasons from 1932 until 1941. Born in Brackernagh, Ballinasloe, County Galway, Dunne was the second child and eldest son born to William and Katie Dunne (née Donelan). The son of a carpenter, he was educated locally before finding employment in the local post office. Dunne first played competitive Gaelic football with the St Grellan's club. He first played for the senior team at the age of seventeen, winning a county senior championship medal in his debut season in 1929. Dunne won three more county senior championship medals. Dunne made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he was selected for the Galway junior team.
