Cyril Bernard Papali
Cyril Bernard Papali (1902–1981), also known as ''Cyril Bernard of the Mother of God OCD'', was an Indian priest, writer, academic and a Peritus at the Second Vatican Council. Belonging to the Discalced Carmelites of the Manjummel province in Kerala, Papali was known for his scholarship in Christian as well as Indian theologies and wrote a number of books on these subjects. Biography Cyril Bernard Papali was born in Kara, in the south Indian state of Kerala on 26 September 1902. After opting the Third Order Discalced Carmelite (T.OCD) of the Archdiocese of Verapoly as the base of his vocation on 15 May 1924, he completed his vocational studies to be ordained as a priest on 30 May 1931. Eventually, he became the Prior General of the Congregation, a position he held until 1950, when he was called to Rome where he taught Hinduism at the Pontifical Urban University. The Teresianum, officially the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum (), is a pontifical faculty in Rome. It was established by the Discalced Carmelites for the study of scientific theology and anthropology. History The faculty was established on 16 July 1935 by Albert William (1878-1947), Father General of the Discalced Carmelite order after several years trying to convince the order that the institution should be established. During World War II, the activities of the Faculty ceased but were restarted with renewed interest after the war. The renewed interest meant the original headquarters of the Faculty became too small and the institute secured a move to the Villa Pamphili in 1954. Antony Thachuparambil (8 December 1894 – 9 June 1963), popularly known as ''the Missionary of Chelakkara'' was an Indian Syro-Malabar Catholic priest and social reformer who worked in Chelakkara, Thrissur District, Kerala, India. A candidate for sainthood, he was declared a Servant of God by the Holy See in 2009. Early years Antony Thachuparambil was born on 8 December 1894 in Kottat, a suburban village of Chalakudy in Kerala to Poulose and Rosa. He had his early schooling in Chalakudy Government High School and college education in St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli. He continued his pastoral education at Mary Matha Major Seminary, Thrissur and was ordained on 22 Dec 1924.
