Cymric, Saskatchewan
Cymric is an unincorporated community in the Rural Municipality of Last Mountain Valley No. 250, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located along Saskatchewan Highway 20 between Duval and Govan, it is also serviced by the Canadian Pacific Railway and located at mile 62.3 on the rail line running between Regina and Lanigan, Saskatchewan. History Cymric is a Welsh word and named by a family of early Welsh settlers. The first group of settlers in this area where Volga Germans who settled the area in the late 19th century, followed later by British and Norwegian settlers. The Neu Elsass (New Alsace) Colony was established in 1884 by D.W. Riedl, a German immigration agent from Winnipeg. It was the first German colony established in Saskatchewan. Neu Elsass began when twenty-two families homesteaded near Strasbourg. Lanigan, Saskatchewan
Lanigan (pop. 1300) is a town in south-central Saskatchewan, Canada, at the intersection of TransCanada Yellowhead Highway 16 and Highway 20, approximately 117 km east of Saskatoon and 170 km north of Regina. Lanigan is surrounded by the RM of Usborne No. 310 and is about 2 kilometres west of Lanigan Creek and about 10 km west of Jansen Lake. Quill Lakes are about 34 km to the east along the Yellowhead Highway. Sports and recreation The town of Lanigan has a wide variety of sporting activities and facilities, including a nine-hole grass green golf course, a 25-metre outdoor heated swimming pool, a curling rink with four sheets of ice, ball diamonds, camping, and tennis courts. Earl Grey, Saskatchewan
Earl Grey ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Longlaketon No. 219 and Census Division No. 6. The village is located approximately 67 kilometres north of the City of Regina. The area was first settled in 1901 by Paul Henderson, younger brother of Jack Henderson, hangman of Louis Riel. Subsequent to Paul Henderson's death from exposure in 1903, other settlers followed; in 1906 the village was incorporated and named "Earl Grey" after Albert Grey, 4th Earl Grey, Canada's Governor General at the time. Currently, the town has two churches (Christ Lutheran Church LCICand a United Church), one Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, several old-age homes, a hotel, a curling rink, and a veterinary clinic. Strasbourg () is a small town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, located about 75 km away from the provincial capital, Regina. The school, William Derby School, which holds kindergarten to Grade 12 has 260 students. History The earliest settlers came to this area around 1884 as the area became known for its rich agricultural soil and ample land for pastures. The area was settled by German pioneers. The town was originally spelled Strassburg, ''Strass'' meaning road or street in German and ''burg'' meaning castle. Last Mountain Lake
Last Mountain Lake, also known as Long Lake, is a prairie lake formed from glaciation 11,000 years ago. It is located in south central Saskatchewan, Canada, about north-west of the city of Regina. It flows into the Qu'Appelle River via Last Mountain Creek, which flows past Craven. It is approximately long, and wide at its widest point. It is the largest naturally occurring body of water in southern Saskatchewan. Only Lake Diefenbaker, which is man-made, is larger. The lake is a popular resort area for residents of south-eastern Saskatchewan.
