Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome
The Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, known for sponsorship reasons as the Emirates Arena, is an indoor arena and velodrome in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, Scotland. Built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, these venues hosted the badminton and track cycling events. Situated opposite Celtic Park in the East End, Glasgow, East End of Glasgow, the complex is the headquarters of Sportscotland and Scottish Cycling. History It was built on a site at a cost of £113 million. The construction work took place between 2009 and 2012. The venue opened in October 2012. In September 2017, neighbours Celtic F.C. had plans approved for the construction of a hotel complex within their land, situated directly across the road from the arena and velodrome. Matthew "Matt" Nicholas Crampton (born 23 May 1986) is an English former track cyclist for . He was a member of British Cycling's Olympic Podium Programme, and represented Great Britain at a number of major events. Crampton specialised in track sprinting and competed in the individual sprint, team sprint, keirin and kilo events. Biography Born in Manchester, Crampton won the junior sprint and keirin events at the 2004 European Track Championships. Crampton competed at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Bendigo, Australia in 2004, winning a silver medal in the keirin. He went on to take the silver medal as a member of England's Team Sprint squad at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. 2007 saw Crampton take the silver medal in the keirin and bronze in the team sprint at the European Track Championships, this time riding in the under 23 category. Chris Pritchard (born 2 January 1983) was a professional cyclist who has competed on the track and the road. Born in Sheffield, England, Pritchard took up competitive cycling at the age of 25 after previously racing motorcycles. Vincent De Haître (born June 16, 1994) is a Canadian dual-sport athlete competing as both a speed skater and track cyclist who has been in sport since 2000. After competing at his second Olympic games in PyeongChang De Haître made the switch back over to track cycling where he has been competing as a member of the Canadian national team since the fall of 2018 in an effort to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It is expected that De Haître will return to speed skating in August 2021 after the summer Olympics have concluded.
