Rachel Morris (cyclist)
Rachel Morris (born 25 April 1979) is a British Paralympic sportswoman who has won Paralympic gold medals in both cycling and rowing. She took a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Paralympics as a handcyclist, and eight years later at Rio she won gold in the women's single sculls as a rower. Background She lost both her legs to Complex regional pain syndrome and cycles, in part, to manage the pain. She was born in Guildford, Surrey. Kelly Crowley (born 1976) is an American Paralympic swimmer and cyclist. Competition Crowley is 17-time Disability Swimming National Champion. She is a two-time Paralympic swimming Gold medalist which she earned for the participation in 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. Later on in 2006 she joined cycling and by 2007 won Bronze medal for Para Cycling. The same year she became a champion in Time Trial World Championship. Three years later she received another bronze medal this time for Individual Road Race in Quebec, Canada. In 2012 she was awarded bronze one more time for the same participation as previous years. Anna Harkowska
Anna Harkowska (; born 20 March 1980) is a Polish cyclist. At the age of 14, she won two gold medals in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics as a swimmer, however an ear infection left her unable to continue. She later trained in running and took up a triathlon, and eventually focused her efforts on cycling. In May 2002, she was hit by a car in Szczecin, sustaining 26 fractures in her legs and nearly losing her left leg. After several surgeries and months of rehabilitation, she returned to professional cycling. Dame Sarah Joanne Storey, (née Bailey; born 26 October 1977) is a British Paralympic athlete in cycling and swimming, and a multiple gold medalist in the Paralympic Games, and six times British (able-bodied) national track champion (2 × Pursuit, 1 × Points, 3 × Team Pursuit). Allison Jones (athlete)
Allison Jones (born in Amarillo, Texas, on May 12, 1984) is a Paralympic skier and cyclist for the United States of America. She was born with the birth defect proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which left her without a right femur. She underwent surgery at age 7 months to amputate her right foot, allowing her to more easily wear a prosthetic leg. She received her first prosthetic leg at 9 months of age. Allison moved from Amarillo, TX to Colorado Springs, CO at age 2 and a half. Education She has a mechanical engineering degree from University of Denver where she received the "Pioneer Award". Denise Schindler
Denise Schindler (born 9 November 1985) is a German Paralympic cyclist. Life and career Schindler got into a tram accident when she was 3 years old which resulted in her right leg being amputated below the knee. She began cycling when she was 18. She participated at the Paralympic Games in 2012, where she won a silver medal in the women's road race C1–3 event, and in 2016, where she won a silver medal in the women's road time trial C1–3 event and a bronze medal in the women's road race C1–3 event. Schindler worked with software company Autodesk to develop of a new process for making prosthetics for amputees which could be measured digitally and made using 3D printing. The resulting prosthetic was lighter, cheaper and could take five days to make rather than 10 weeks. She used it at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Laura De Vaan
Laura de Vaan (born 11 August 1980 in Uden) is a Dutch Paralympian who competes in handcycle events. de Vaan has appeared in two Summer Paralympics, 1998 in Beijing and 2012 in London. In the London Games she won silver in the H4 women's road race and Bronze in the H4 time trial. Personal history De Vaan was born in Uden in 1980. She was educated at Heythuysen High School and in 1998 matriculated to Nijmegen University where she studied Dutch Language and Literature. Andrea Eskau
Andrea Eskau (born 21 March 1971) is a German handbiker, Paralympic biathlon, and cross country skier who was born in Apolda and was a winner of three gold medals in Summer Paralympic games. In 2014, she became a recipient of another gold medal at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. In 2013, she was a cross-country sit skiing winner at the IPC Nordic Skiing World Championship. Eskau also competed at the 2016 Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro winning a gold medal in the H5 Cycling road race and taking home a bronze medal in the H4-5 time trial. Monica Bascio
Monica Bascio (born September 16, 1969) is an American Paralympic cross-country skier, biathlete, and handcyclist. Making her Paralympic debut at the Paralympic Winter Games Torino 2006, she has competed in a total of four Paralympic Games. At London 2012, Bascio secured two silver medals in handcycling. She was named the United States Olympic Committee’s Paralympic Sportswoman of the Year in 2013. Following her retirement after Paralympic Winter Games Sochi 2014, Bascio was diagnosed with colon cancer later that year. She went through surgery and chemotherapy treatment and has been cancer free since April 2015.
