These are the official results of the Men's Mountainbike Race at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. There were a total number of 43 participants, with seven non-finishers, in this inaugural Olympic event over 47.7 kilometres, held on July 30, 1996. The mountain biking events were held at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia Conyers is an Atlanta suburb, the county seat of and only city in Rockdale County, Georgia, United States. Cadel Evans
Cadel Lee Evans (; born 14 February 1977) is an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally in both mountain biking and road bicycle racing. A four-time Olympian, Evans is one of three non-Europeans – along with Greg LeMond and Egan Bernal – to have officially won the Tour de France, winning the race in 2011. Early in his career, he was a champion mountain biker, winning the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 1998 and 1999 and placing seventh in the men's cross-country mountain bike race at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Evans is a four-time Olympian. Evans turned to full-time road cycling in 2001, and gradually progressed through the ranks. He finished second in the Tour de France in 2007 and 2008. David Juarez
David "Tinker" Juarez (born March 4, 1961) is an American former professional BMX and cross-country mountain bike racer. His prime competitive years in BMX were from 1978 to 1984 and in mountain bike racing 1986 to 2005. Since late 2005, he has competed as a Marathon mountain bike racer. In all three disciplines, he has won numerous national and international competitions. Most recently, Juarez finished third in the 2006 Race Across America Endurance bicycle race. Roel Paulissen (born 27 April 1976 in Hasselt) is a Belgian former professional mountain biker. Throughout his sporting career since 1993, he has won more than ten Belgian national championship titles, mounted top-five finishes at both the European and World Cup series, and claimed a total of four medals, including two golds, in men's cross-country race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Paulissen also represented his nation Belgium in four editions of the Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008), where he competed in men's mountain biking since it officially became an Olympic sport in 1996. David Baker (cyclist)
David Baker (born 30 December 1965) is an English former professional cyclist, who competed in cyclo-cross and mountain bike racing. Biography Baker, from Dronfield, Derbyshire, began riding cyclo-cross with Norton Wheelers. He moved to Ace Racing Team where he and teammate Tim Gould dominated cyclo-cross for years. In the late 1980s, Baker and Gould tried small mountain bike races, progressing to Mountain Bike Club events which were then a national series. The British Mountain Bike Federation began in the early 1990s; Baker won the national series on numerous occasions, along with national championships. In 1993, he won the UK round of the Grundig Mountain Bike World Cup at Newnham Park, near Plymouth. He came 15th for Britain at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Beat Wabel (born 23 May 1967) is a Swiss former professional cyclist. He competed in the men's cross-country mountain biking event at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
