Curtis H. Gregg
Curtis H. Gregg (August 9, 1865 – January 18, 1933) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography Curtis H. Gregg was born in Adamsburg, Pennsylvania. He attended Greensburg Seminary in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was engaged in teaching and worked as associate editor of the '' Greensburg Evening Press'' from 1883 to 1887. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1888, and commenced practice in Greensburg. He served as district attorney of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1891. He was a member of the school board of Greensburg from 1892 to 1896. He was a delegate to the Democratic State conventions in 1892, 1894, and 1896, and served as chairman of the Democratic county committee from 1896 to 1913. He was an unsuccessful candidate in 1900 for election to the Fifty-seventh Congress and in 1904 for election to the Pennsylvania State Senate. Harris & Ewing Photo Studio
Harris & Ewing Inc. was a photographic studio in Washington, D.C., owned and run by George W. Harris and Martha Ewing. History As a rookie news photographer, Harris covered the Johnstown flood of 1889 in Pennsylvania. He worked at Hearst News Service in San Francisco from 1900 to 1903, then joined President Theodore Roosevelt's press entourage on a train trip. Roosevelt, or a San Francisco newspaper editor, angry at having no photograph of George Frisbie Hoar to run with the story of his death, urged him to open a studio in Washington to photograph notable people there. He took Ewing, an artist and colorist with whom he had worked; she financed the company and managed the studio. Harris and Ewing opened their studio in 1905 at 1313 F Street NW. The 1908 Democratic National Convention took place from July 7 to July 10, 1908, at Denver Auditorium Arena in Denver, Colorado. 1928 Democratic National Convention
The 1928 Democratic National Convention was held at Sam Houston Hall in Houston, Texas, June 26–28, 1928. Keynote speaker was Claude G. Bowers. The convention resulted in the nomination of Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York for president and Senator Joseph T. Robinson of Arkansas for vice president. The convention was the first held by either party in the South since the Civil War. It was also the first to nominate a Roman Catholic for president, Al Smith. The Texas delegation, led by Governor Dan Moody, was vehemently opposed to Smith. Therefore, when Smith was nominated, they rallied against his anti-prohibition sentiment by fighting for a "dry", prohibitionist platform.
