Cunene Province
Cunene is a province of Angola. It has an area of 87,342 km2 and a population of 990,087 in 2014. Ondjiva is the capital of the province; it was previously known as Vila Pereira d’Eça. Ondjiva is the only city in this province with the distance from Ondjiva to Luanda is 1424 km and to Lubango is 415 km. The Cunene River gave its name to the province. Cunene lies north of the Cunene River, which forms the border between Angola and Namibia. Cunene is traversed by the northwesterly line of equal latitude and longitude. During World War I the region was the scene of fighting in 1914–15. The German campaign in Angola resulted in Germany's temporary occupation of the area. The inhabitants of the Province are overwhelmingly Ovambo pastoralists. Provinces Of Angola
Angola is divided into twenty-one provinces, known in Portuguese language, Portuguese as ''províncias''. On 14 August 2024, Angola's National Assembly (Angola), National Assembly approved a law to create three new provinces: * Cuando Cubango Province was divided into Cuando Province and Cubango Province; * Icolo e Bengo Province was separated from Luanda Province; and * Moxico Leste Province was separated from Moxico Province. This law went into effect with its publication in the official gazette of Angola on 5 September 2024, and are expected to become operational in 2025. Ombadja
Ombadja (known as Santa Clara until 1975) is municipality in Cunene Province, Angola. Its seat is the village of Xangongo (known in colonial times as Roçadas). It occupies 12,264 square kilometers and has about 304,964 inhabitants .
