Cundall, North Yorkshire
Cundall is a village in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is one of the Thankful Villages that suffered no fatalities during World War I. Governance The village lies within the Skipton & Ripon UK Parliamentary Constituency. It is part of the Masham & Fountains electoral division of North Yorkshire County Council. It is also within the Wathvale ward of Harrogate Borough Council. The village is part of the civil parish of Cundall with Leckby. Geography The village is recorded in the UK Census of 1821 as having a population of 351. In the 1851 UK Census the population was 389 and in the 1881 UK Census was 301. In the 2001 UK Census the parish had a population of 102, of which 82 were aged over sixteen. Of these, 64 were in employment. There were 42 dwellings of which half were detached properties. Peter Cundall
Peter Joseph Cundall, (1 April 1927 – 5 December 2021) was an English-born Australian horticulturalist, conservationist, author, broadcaster and television personality. He lived in Tasmania's Tamar Valley, and until 2008, at the age of 81, presented the ABC TV program '' Gardening Australia''. Starting in 1967, he presented what is believed to be the world's first gardening talkback radio segment. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007 "For service to the environment, particularly the protection of wilderness areas in Tasmania, and to horticulture as a presenter of gardening programs on television and radio." James Cundall
James William Thomas Cundall is a British theatrical producer notable for his association with many commercially successful musicals and theatrical shows. He is a founder of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and The Imperial Ice Stars, conceived York's annual Christmas ice-rink The Ice Factor and created York's Shakespeare's Rose Theatre. In 2019 his principal company Lunchbox Theatrical Productions Ltd went into administration following the business failure of Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre Ltd, with creditors including the Royal National Theatre claiming unpaid debts of over five million pounds from a series of companies run in different parts of the world by Cundall under the umbrella of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions. Joseph Cundall
Joseph Cundall (22 September 1818 – 10 January 1895) was a Victorian English writer under the pseudonym of "Stephen Percy", a pioneer photographer and London publisher of children's books. He provided employment for many of the best artists of the day by using them as illustrators. Joseph was the son of Eliza and Benjamin Cundall, a draper. He trained as a printer in Ipswich, and aged 16 found work in London with Charles Tilt, a bookseller and publisher. He wrote two books for Tilt and succeeded N Hailes in 1841 at the Juvenile Library, 12 Old Bond Street. In 1848 he started a lending library for children called St. George's Reading Library. In 1843 Cundall became publisher of the ''Home Treasury'' children's books, a series conceived and edited by Henry Cole under the pseudonym ''Felix Summerly''.
