Cueva Las Maravillas Airport is an airport east of San Pedro de Macorís, capital of the San Pedro de Macorís Province in the Dominican Republic. The airport was opened on February 7, 2008. Cueva Las Maravillas Airport has many flights to and from other airports in the Dominican Republic, bringing tourists for Cueva de las Maravillas National Park, which features a popular natural cavern complex. The La Romana VOR/DME (Ident: LRN) is located east of the airport. San Pedro de Macorís is a city and Municipalities of the Dominican Republic, municipality (''municipio'') in the Dominican Republic and the capital of the San Pedro de Macorís Province, San Pedro de Macorís province in the east region of the country; it is among the 10 largest cities of the Dominican Republic. San Pedro De Macorís Province
San Pedro de Macorís () is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province of the Dominican Republic, also the name of its San Pedro de Macorís, capital city. The city is fairly active due to its proximity to the national capital of Santo Domingo and also its role in the sugar industry. The province is informally known as San Pedro, SPM or Serie 23 for the first two numbers of their Dominican identification or Cédula de identidad, Cedula. Citizens from San Pedro de Macorís are called ''petromacorisanos''. The culture of the province shares many similarities with those of the other eastern provinces. The Parque nacional Cueva de las Maravillas (English: ''Cave of wonders National Park'') is a national park located approximately 15 kilometres (9 miles ) east from San Pedro de Macorís and 10 kilometres (7 miles) west from La Romana, in the south-eastern part of the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Named after the Cave of Wonders, it was previously known as the Cueva Jaguar until 1949, and it is well known for its ancient paintings by the Taíno Indians. In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. Samaná El Catey International Airport
Samaná El Catey International Airport , also called Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Juan Bosch (AISA), is an international airport that opened on 6 November 2006, serving the province of Samaná in the Dominican Republic. The airport is located near the village of El Catey, some west of Sánchez, at the base of the mountainous peninsula Cape Samana. Local travel times are given as 30 minutes drive to Las Terrenas, 40 minutes drive to the provincial capital, Santa Barbara de Samaná, and approximately one hour drive to Las Galeras. Facilities The airport's new runway is 3000 m x 45 m, flexible pavement load-rated PCN 66 F/A/W/T, designed to accommodate a Boeing 747.
