Cuervo, New Mexico
Cuervo is an unincorporated community in Guadalupe County, New Mexico, United States. Cuervo is located along Interstate 40 east-northeast of Santa Rosa. Cuervo had a post office until September 10, 2011; it still has its own ZIP code, 88417. The community is nearly a ghost town now, having been split by the construction of I-40; but there is still a small church and a gas station. Cuervo was founded in 1901, and a post office was opened there in 1902, although records indicate that there was a settlement there prior to 1901. It began as a supply center for ranches in the area; by 1926, it had become a stop on Route 66 for travellers. The 1940 census recorded a population of 128, although by that time there were "few gas stations, groceries, no café, garage or other tourist accommodations." List Of Counties In New Mexico
There are 33 counties in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The New Mexico Territory was organized in September 1850. The first nine counties in the territory to be created, in 1852, were Bernalillo, Doña Ana, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Ana, Santa Fe, Socorro, Taos, and Valencia Counties. Mora County was created in 1860. Following the Gadsden Purchase of 1853–1854, the northeasternmost part of the New Mexico Territory was ceded to the new Colorado Territory in February 1861, before the western half was reorganized as the Arizona Territory in February 1863, establishing New Mexico's present-day boundaries. Guadalupe County ( es, Condado de Guadalupe) is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,687, making it the fifth-least populous county in New Mexico. Its county seat is Santa Rosa. History Guadalupe County was named after ''Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe'' (Our Lady of Guadalupe) or after the ''Mesita de Guadalupe'' (Guadalupe Plain). The county was created from the southern portion of San Miguel County February 26, 1891 by an act of the New Mexico Territorial Legislature. Santa Rosa, New Mexico
Santa Rosa is a city in and the county seat of Guadalupe County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. It lies between Albuquerque and Tucumcari, situated on the Pecos River at the intersection of Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 54 and 84.
