Cuddebackville
Cuddebackville is a hamlet in the town of Deerpark, located in Orange County, New York, United States. Taking US-209, Its location is about north of Port Jervis. Cuddebackville is home to Hamilton Bicentennial Elementary School which is run by the Port Jervis City School District. This hamlet is also home to D&H Canal Park and The Neversink River Unique Area. The hamlet was named after William Cuddeback, a general from The War of 1812 and a descendent of the Cuddeback family, one of the first families to settle in the area. The Cuddebackville Dam was a dam that was located in Cuddebackville. This dam was built in the 1820s and expanded on in 1903. In October 2004, the dam was removed by the Army Corps of Engineers to help aquatic life in the area. Cuddebackville Dam
The Cuddebackville Dam was a concrete dam on the Neversink River in Deerpark, Orange County, New York near the town of Cuddebackville, removed in October, 2004 to benefit aquatic life. It was the first dam removed in New York State for environmental reasons. History The Cuddebackville Dam is actually two different dams that are separated by a small island. The original structure was built in the 1820s to divert water from the Neversink River into the Delaware and Hudson Canal (D&H Canal). The second structure was built in 1903. The Cuddebackville Dam was six feet high and across. The dam was built to divert water to turbines to generate electricity. The water was diverted into a feeder canal connected to a small hydropower plant. The plant was abandoned in 1945 because modern power lines were built to draw electricity from farther away. Deerpark is a town in the western part of Orange County, New York, United States, and part of the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 Census, the population was at 7,509. The center of population of New York is located in Cuddebackville, a hamlet in Deerpark. Port Jervis City School District (PJCSD) is an American school district headquartered in Port Jervis, New York. The district runs four schools, 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and one high school.
