Crucifix Sea Catfish
The crucifix sea catfish (''Sciades proops'') — also known as the Christfish, the crucifix/crucifex catfish, the crucifixfish, or the gillbacker, — is a species of catfish in the family Ariidae. This fish was described by Achille Valenciennes in 1840, originally under the genus '' Bagrus''. It inhabits marine, brackish and freshwaters ranging from Brazil to Colombia. It reaches a maximum total length of , more commonly reaching a TL of . It reaches a maximum weight of . Its maximum known life expectancy is 4 years. The crucifix sea catfish spawns from October–May. It is harvested by commercial fisheries, and its meat is marketed fresh. Diet The crucifix sea catfish has an extensive diet, consisting largely of crustaceans such as crabs in the genera '' Callinectes'' ('' C. bocourti'', '' C. danae'', and '' C. ornatus''), ''Petrolisthes'', and '' Porcellana'' ('' P. sayana''); shrimp and prawns in the genera '' Alpheus'', '' Exhippolysmata'' ('' E. oplophoroides''), '' ...

Achille Valenciennes
Achille Valenciennes (9 August 1794 – 13 April 1865) was a French zoologist. Valenciennes was born in Paris, and studied under Georges Cuvier. His study of parasitic worms in humans made an important contribution to the study of parasitology. He also carried out diverse systematic classifications, linking fossil and current species. He worked with Cuvier on the 22-volume "'' Histoire Naturelle des Poissons''" (Natural History of Fish) (1828–1848), carrying on alone after Cuvier died in 1832. In 1832, he succeeded Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville (1777–1850) as chair of ''Histoire naturelle des mollusques, des vers et des zoophytes'' at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. Early in his career, he was given the task of classifying animals described by Alexander von Humboldt Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt (14 September 17696 May 1859) was a German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and scie ...

Porcellana Sayana
''Porcellana sayana'' is a species of porcelain crab that lives in the western Atlantic Ocean, often as a commensal of hermit crabs. It is red with white spots, and has a characteristic bulge behind each claw. Distribution ''Porcellana sayana'' is found along the western coast of the Atlantic Ocean, from Cape Hatteras (United States) to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Description ''Porcellana sayana'' is long, and is red, with numerous whitish spots. It may be distinguished from other species by the form of the first pereiopod; the carpus (last segment before the claw) of that leg bears a lobe which projects forwards. It has a fringe of setae along the front of its claws, which it uses in filter feeding. Ecology ''Porcellana sayana'' lives in shallow water, at depths of up to , among rocks and oyster shells, or as a commensal of the hermit crabs '' Pagurus pollicaris'' and '' Petrochirus diogenes''. Like another porcelain crab, ''Petrolisthes galat ...

Muraenesocidae
The Muraenesocidae, or pike congers, are a small family of marine eels found worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas. Some species are known to enter brackish water. Pike congers have cylindrical bodies, scaleless skin, narrow heads with large eyes, and strong teeth. Their dorsal fins start above the well-developed pectoral fins. These rather aggressive fish range from in length. Isopoda
Isopoda is an order of crustaceans that includes woodlice and their relatives. Isopods live in the sea, in fresh water, or on land. All have rigid, segmented exoskeletons, two pairs of antennae, seven pairs of jointed limbs on the thorax, and five pairs of branching appendages on the abdomen that are used in respiration. Females brood their young in a pouch under their thorax. Isopods have various feeding methods: some eat dead or decaying plant and animal matter, others are grazers, or filter feeders, a few are predators, and some are internal or external parasites, mostly of fish. Aquatic species mostly live on the seabed or bottom of freshwater bodies of water, but some taxa can swim for a short distance. Terrestrial forms move around by crawling and tend to be found in cool, moist places. Some species are able to roll themselves into a ball as a defense mechanism or to conserve moisture. There are over 10,000 identified species of isopod worldwide, with around 4 ...

Xiphopenaeus Kroyeri
''Xiphopenaeus kroyeri'', commonly called the Atlantic seabob, is a commercially important prawn. It is up to long and is the most intensely fished prawn species in the Guianas and along much of the Gulf Coast of the United States. Description Adults grow to long, with males only reaching . The rostrum has five teeth near the base, but is smooth along the tip, which is greatly elongated and often curves upwards to varying degrees. Distribution and fishery ''X. kroyeri'' lives in the western Atlantic Ocean from North Carolina to Santa Catarina state, Brazil. It is the most important commercial prawn in parts of the United States from Pensacola (in the Florida Panhandle) to Texas, and in the Guianas. In other areas, such as Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Trinidad, the fishing effort is only locally intensive. In 2000–2007, the annual catch was greater than . Taxonomy ''Xiphopenaeus kroyeri'' was first described by Camill Heller in 1862, under the name ''Penaeus kroyeri'' ...

Xiphopenaeus
''Xiphopenaeus'' is a genus of crustaceans in the suborder Dendrobranchiata, the shrimps and prawns. Two species are in this genus: *''Xiphopenaeus kroyeri'' *'' Xiphopenaeus riveti'' Likely, more species have not yet been described and named.Gusmão, J., et al. (2006)Cryptic species and population structuring of the Atlantic and Pacific seabob shrimp species, ''Xiphopenaeus kroyeri'' and ''Xiphopenaeus riveti''.''Marine Biology'' 149(3), 491-502. These were previously considered to be two names for the same species, but genetic analysis confirms they are two distinct species. ''X. kroyeri'' occurs in the Atlantic Ocean, while ''X. riveti'' lives in the Pacific. ''X. kroyeri'', the seabob shrimp, is a very important food species fished off the coast of Brazil Brazil ( pt, Brasil; ), officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (Portuguese: ), is the largest country in both South America and Latin America. At and with over 217 million people, Brazil is the world's fif ...

Penaeus Schmitti
''Penaeus'' is a genus of prawns, including the giant tiger prawn (''P. monodon''), the most important species of farmed crustacean worldwide. The genus has been reorganised following a proposition of Pérez Farfante and Kensley based on morphological differences, in particular the genital characteristics of these animals, although this revision has not been universally accepted. Following the revision, many species formerly in the genus ''Penaeus'' have been reassigned to new genera in the family Penaeidae: ''Farfantepenaeus'', '' Fenneropenaeus'', ''Litopenaeus'' and ''Marsupenaeus''. The following table gives an overview: A few more species that are sometimes given as ''Penaeus'' spp. are actually assigned to the genus ''Melicertus ''Melicertus'' is a genus of "king" prawns, comprising eight species which were previously classified as members of the genus ''Penaeus'': *''Melicertus canaliculatus'' (Olivier, 1811) - witch prawn *''Melicertus hathor'' (Burkenroad, 1959 ...
