Croydon South is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 27 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Croydon South recorded a population of 4,759 at the 2021 census. Croydon South has a small shopping strip, on the corner of Eastfield and Bayswater Roads, incorporating over 20 retail outlets and a post office. It is close to the foothills of Mount Dandenong and the Dandenong Ranges. Croydon South Post Office opened on 1 February 1961 as the suburb was developed. Medical Croydon South has a medical centre located in the Merrindale Shopping Centre. Croydon South is also located 2.5 km from Maroondah Hospital. The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. City Of Croydon
The City of Croydon was a local government area about east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1961 until 1994. History Croydon was originally part of the Shire of Lillydale, which was incorporated as a district on 19 September 1856, and as a shire in 1872. Croydon itself became the centre of a severance movement, and was incorporated as a shire on 24 May 1961. After much local debate, it was proclaimed as a city on 22 May 1971. Croydon is a large town in south London, England, south of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Croydon, a local government district of Greater London.
