Croydon Health Authority
Croydon PCT was the primary care trust with responsibility for the London Borough of Croydon, which covered parts of south west London and north Surrey. It was responsible for planning and funding healthcare, and for public health in Croydon. It was accountable to NHS London, the strategic health authority for London. Background and legal status It was originally established in 2003 as Croydon Primary Care and Trust by order of the then UK government’s secretary of state for health, John Hutton, using his powers under the National Health Service Act 1977. The trust took over responsibility for the health services in the area from the previously established Croydon Health Authority. Primary Care Trust
Primary care trusts (PCTs) were part of the National Health Service in England from 2001 to 2013. PCTs were largely administrative bodies, responsible for commissioning primary, community and secondary health services from providers. Until 31 May 2011, they also provided community health services directly. Collectively PCTs were responsible for spending around 80 per cent of the total NHS budget. Primary care trusts were abolished on 31 March 2013 as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, with their work taken over by clinical commissioning groups. Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust runs Croydon University Hospital. It also provides services at Purley War Memorial Hospital, in Purley, as well as multiple clinics in the local area. Croydon University Hospital is on the London Road in northern Croydon, and Purley War Memorial Hospital is located on the A235. The Trust was formed in 2010 by a merger of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. It opened a new child development centre for children with special educational needs and disabilities in January 2017. Richard Ottaway
Sir Richard Geoffrey James Ottaway (born 24 May 1945) is a British Conservative Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Croydon South from 1992 to 2015. He was previously MP for Nottingham North from 1983 to 1987. Early life Ottaway was born in Sonning, Berkshire. He attended Backwell School, a secondary modern in Backwell, North Somerset, and joined the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth before serving as a Royal Navy officer in 1961-70 as a Lieutenant. Health and wellbeing boards are statutory bodies introduced in England under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, whose role is to promote integrated working among local providers of healthcare and social care. Establishment The 2012 Act required each upper-tier local authority in England to form a health and wellbeing board as a committee of that authority; more than 130 "shadow" boards were created before April 2013, when they all became fully operational. Duties The aim of the boards is to improve integration between practitioners in local health care, social care, public health and related public services so that patients and other service-users experience more "joined up" care, particularly in transitions between health care and social care. Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022. Establishment The announcement that GPs would take over this commissioning role was made in the 2010 white paper "Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS". This was part of the government's stated desire to create a clinically-driven commissioning system that was more sensitive to the needs of patients. Peter Brambleby is an English Public Health doctor. From 1996 he was director of public health for Norwich primary care trust, Primary Care Trust. In 2003 he received requests from senior clinicians at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital to look into their concerns about changes to the design and build of the new Private Finance Initiative hospital that they believed put patients at risk. Croydon University Hospital, known from 1923 to 2002 as Mayday Hospital and from 2002 to 2010 as Croydon Hospital, is a large NHS hospital in Thornton Heath in south London, England run by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.
