Croydon City Arrows is an Australian soccer club based in Croydon, Victoria, currently playing in the 5th tier of the Victorian association football structure and the seventh tier nationally. The club was established 1957 and has won two Victorian titles, in 1985 and 1986, and plays at the Dorset Recreational Reserve. The club was briefly known as Maroondah Arrows in 1997 and 1998. Croydon City Arrows senior men's team currently participates in the Victorian State League Division 4 East. Croydon is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 28 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Croydon recorded a population of 28,608 at the 2021 census. History Dating back to 1840 the land was first utilised by settlers for grazing and the first road cut through the area now known as Croydon, was initially known as Sawmill Road, as a sawmill was nearby. Later it became known as Oxford Road and later Mt Dandenong Road, some time in the early 1900s. Owing to the coarse silvery-white grass, the area now known as Croydon was first called "White Flats". Daniel Lee Allsopp (born 10 August 1978) is an Australian former soccer player who played as a striker. James Rooney (born 10 December 1945) is a former professional footballer who played as a left winger. Born in Scotland, he represented the Australia national team at international level and was member of the squad at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Biography Rooney played first-team football with Lochee Harp, Peterborough United and Montrose F.C. in the United Kingdom, before emigrating to Melbourne, Australia in the late 1960s.
