Croxton is a village and civil parish about 13 miles (21 km) west of Cambridge in South Cambridgeshire, England. In 2001, the resident population was 163 people, falling slightly to 160 at the 2011 Census. Croxton Park is to the south of the current village and contains a large house and parkland. History The name of the village was spelled ''Crochestone'' in the 1086 Domesday book. 'Croxton' is derived from 'farmstead in a nook, or of a man called Krókr', or the Old English 'croh-tun' meaning saffron farm, and may have been part of a late Scandinavian settlement, along with Caxton and Toft. It is likely that the settlement grew up on two sites: around the old manor house of Westbury, at the south end of the village, and around the old manor house of Croxton. It seems that a street to the east of the church formed the main village . Croxton is a section of Jersey City in the New Jersey Meadowlands in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. It is bounded by Secaucus at Penhorn Creek (named for the 17th century American colonial judge and President of the New Jersey Provincial Council and Commander-in-Chief of New Jersey, William Pinhorne). The Riverbend of the Hackensack River and the Hudson Generating Station and the Marion Section lie to the south and Truck 1-9 and Western Slope to the east. Nearby North Bergen Yard and Croxton Yard are parts of the North Jersey Shared Assets Area. The Yard is officially known as the North Jersey Intermodal Terminal. Croxton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, within the district of Breckland. Croxton is located 2.2 miles north of Thetford and 26 miles south-east of Norwich. History Croxton's name is of mixed Anglo-Saxon and Viking origin deriving from an amalgamation of the Old English and Old Norse for 'Krokr's' farmstead or settlement. Croxton railway station is a commuter railway station on the Mernda line, serving the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Northcote, Victoria, Australia. Croxton is a unstaffed status ground structure station featuring two side platforms. It opened on 1 October 1889. The station has connections to Melbourne tram routes 11 and 86 on St George’s Road and High Street. History Opening on 8 October 1889, when the Inner Circle line was extended from North Fitzroy to Reservoir, Croxton station was named after the nearby Croxton Park Racecourse and Hotel, which in turn was named after Croxton Racecourse in Leicestershire, England. The Croxton Play of the Sacrament is the only surviving English Host miracle play. The play centers around the abduction of a Host by a group of Jewish men, and the series of miracles that lead to their conversion of Christianity. Historical background and author The play was written circa 1491. It is believed that the play was performed by an East Anglian touring company. The original author is unknown, however it is believed that he was a member of clergy, as he has great knowledge of Scripture, The Mass, and The Office. The surviving manuscript A singular manuscript of the play is the only surviving text available. The manuscript is found in 338r–356r of Dublin, Trinity MS F.4.20, catalogue no. 652. The initials "R.C" are located on the bottom right corner of the text. Gail Gibson hypothesizes that these initials belong to a vicar by the name of Robert Cooke, while Tamara Atkin argues that they belong to the printer Robert Copeland.
